How does a neurofeedback session work? An ADHD treatment as example.

featured image

Neurofeedback started as early as the 1960’s when researcher Joe Kamiya experimented with the Alpha activity (8-12 Hz) in the human brain. The results, which were very promising, inspired many other new experiments. Nowadays the fact that humans can learn to alter their brain function, by using an EEG, is virtually undisputed.

This video is an example of a neurofeedback session. Former patient Tax receives a therapy session as a treatment to ADHD. He, his father and his therapists comment on how this treatment can be beneficial to ADHD/ADD patients. the complete video on neurofeedback as a treatment to ADHD/ADD can be found on />

Details Matter:
The Meds Don't Work Long Enough: The Duration of Effectiveness [DOE] is not adequate: Each stimulant drug, each family of stimulant drugs has its own expected DOE. This DOE is not discussed in the literature as a measuring tool, but it's common knowledge with any who watches carefully for drug action and duration throughout the day.

All stimulant medications have an expected, less than 24 hr duration. Duration is an obvious point but is overlooked so often as an essential tool. If meds last less than 24 hr, then how long should each last? Dialing in the particular duration is necessary to get the best action out of each specific med. [AMP=Amphetamine Family, MPH=Methylphenidate Family]

Vyvanse [AMP] and Daytrana [MPH patch] both win the DOE race with 12-14 hr expected as optimum.

Adderall XR [AMP] is next with 8 hr DOE -- sometimes can get 10, but often more DOE is too much - out the top of the Therapeutic Window: w

Concerta [MPH] and Focalin [MPH] both run 8 hr if dialed in effectively - some studies show longer, my experience: more than 10 hr with either of these is too much -- see other articles on the 'Top of the Window.'

Metadate CR [MPH] and Ritalin LA [MPH] are both right at 8 hr, rarely longer, with side effects, if pushing the dose higher

The Immediate Release Stimulants, the tablets with no extended time
expected, last only a portion of the day with Adderall IR [AMP]
[Immediate Release Tabs] lasting about max 5 hr, Ritalin IR [MPH] is 4-hour max duration.

I Noah Thomas, the creator of this channel, have been diagnosed hypogonadism by a medical doctor and legally prescribed the medically indicated treatment of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.

My Story

My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a medication called VIVITROL and consequently, spiraled into a suicidal depression with depersonalization and anxiety. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different doctor prescribed SSRI’s SNRI’s Tricyclics, mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I had an explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started legally prescribed testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 6 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor.

I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

How Long Does Rapid Cycling Last? Switching vs Cycling

featured image

Bipolar disorder is considered to be in a rapid cycling state if you have more than four episodes of either depression or mania in one year.
One study showed that 80% of people experienced a resolution of their rapid cycling within two years. Rapid cycling is often triggered by something such as medication or a medical illness. So if you are cycling, you and your doctor need to look to see if you can find something that may be aggravating your stability. astly Polarity switching is another sign of instability and may call for more aggressive medication management like maybe needing to be on more than one mood stabilizer.

Many families find medication to be an option for ADHD symptoms. To help alleviate ADHD symptoms, you should contact your pediatrician or child's psychologist. It is important to meet with the professional and ask about possible side effects, positive outcomes, and how your child can take these medications. For ADHD, stimulant medication and non-stimulant medications are the most common. Ritalin, Dexadrine and Adderal are some of the most common stimulant medications. Some of these medications are very long-lasting and others are short-acting. Your doctor may recommend that you use a combination of some or all of these medications to help your child. Sometimes, children are unable to tolerate side effects from stimulant medication. Your doctor may recommend a non-stimulant. Stratera is a well-known brand of medication. Parents should be aware that if your child is taking medication, it's important to keep in close contact with their doctor. Make sure you let your doctor know if you notice any changes in your child’s behavior or symptoms. Teachers and other professionals who work with your child can be a great source of information. They will let you know if your child's symptoms are improving or if they have other concerns. There are many medications that can be used to treat ADHD. Parents should consider the information we have provided and talk with their doctor about possible treatment options.

What Is Social Anxiety?
Social anxiety disorder is actually quite common and it's one of the more common psychiatric disorders. In the United States, it has a lifetime prevalence of 5 to 12%. Social anxiety disorder is more common in women than men, but men, most certainly, can get it. And if you are going to get a social anxiety disorder, it usually presents itself in adolescence, usually in the mid-teens, but children as young as five years of age can be diagnosed and even people who are older can be diagnosed, especially if they are in a situation where there are new social activities.

#socialanxietydisorder #drfrita #socialanxiety

Social Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
Social anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, can be quite debilitating. And here are some of the symptoms.

You Avoid Social Situations
You may have a social anxiety disorder if you avoid social situations. If you worry that you're going to be embarrassed in front of other people, or if you fear that others will speak negatively of you if they perceive you as being inadequate.
You Interpret Neutral Reactions As Being Negative
For example, if you're having a conversation with someone, which is quite normal, and they're reacting to you in a very neutral manner, you may walk away thinking, "Oh, that person doesn't like me. They think I'm not smart. They think I'm not good enough." You may interpret something that is more negative than it actually is.
Fast Heart Rate
There are also some physical symptoms associated with social anxiety disorder. They include getting a fast heart rate or even irregular breathing or actually having a tremble or tremulousness.
Often Avoid Making Eye Contact or Speaking
If you are someone who avoids making eye contact or if you often avoid speaking to people you may have social anxiety.
Sweating
You might have a social anxiety disorder if when you are in public or in front of other people, you start sweating, getting a very fast heart rate, blushing or feeling flushed, having some fast or irregular breathing.

What Exercise Does To Your Brain - HINT: It's Like Cannabis

What’s the good feeling you get after intense exercise? It is not due to endorphin release as we thought. It’s actually from endocannabinoid production, which is your body’s natural cannabinoids. Regular vigorous exercise can increase neurogenesis, improve anxiety and reduce depression. The CDC recommends 150 30 minutes per week of moderate intensity, or 75 30 minutes per week of vigorous intensity to achieve this effect.
