Hi friends! In this video i share how Vyvanse | Elevanse affected me the first month of taking it. So thank you for being here, and for following me on this journey.
Being diagnosed as an adult, has been extremely eye opening for me.
So i really hope this video will contribute with some kind of help to someone, that is looking around, maybe wondering about what i share today.
Controversy sells, and the media knows it. So a lot of what we see, read about, and hear about ADHD and ADHD treatment either misrepresents the facts or is flat-out meant to scare us.
Netflix's new documentary "Take Your Pills" (interview w/producers: is no exception. This is why I'm upset: Despite bringing up many legitimate concerns, the film contributes to the confusion, stigma and fear around stimulant medication — many of the experts included either don’t have a background in research, directly benefit from spreading fear & misinformation about ADHD treatment, or speak on subjects outside their area of expertise.
This is a problem, because — as this study found ( — “Inaccurate and sensationalized media reports surrounding ADHD and its treatments [have] a major impact on parental decision making” when it comes to treatment.
Fortunately, a TON of research has been done on stimulant medications, so you and your doctor can decide what’s right for you or your child based on facts, not fear.
This is Dr. Hallowell’s full response to “Take Your Pills:”
Dr. Hallowell is a psychiatrist and leading ADHD expert who’s written over 20 books on ADHD, including “Driven to Distraction” and “Delivered From Distraction” and is finishing up his memoir, which you can pre-order here: /

http://adhdinadults.com Dr. Lenard Adler describes the story of a male in his 40's that was diagnosed and treated for Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) shortly after his child was tested and diagnosed. Identifying ADHD symptoms in children often leads to a better understanding of attention deficit disorder for parents. In this success story, the parent recognized similar symptoms in his own life, which he had previously coped with to the best of his ability. Adler recommends that parents be screened for ADHD if their child has been diagnosed.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) are neurological and behavior-related conditions that cause difficulty in concentrating, impulsiveness and excessive energy.
Individuals with ADHD symptoms not only have a challenge in concentrating, but have a challenge sitting still. Those with ADHD are typically more disruptive than individuals with ADD.
ADHD often has an onset age of 7, but this disorder can continue through teen years and well into adulthood. It’s estimated that ADHD affects 9 percent of American children between the ages of 13 and 18 and over 4 percent of adults.

Adderall is classified as an amphetamine that is highly addictive. It is a drug that can be prescribed to those who have ADHD; however, it is highly abused by university and college students. It is called the "study drug" for those who abuse it because it increases concentration and creates intense invigoration and euphoria. This video looks at Adderall and how it works both in the body and in the brain.
It is also important to emphasize the mental health aspect of this video. Studies have shown that students try Adderall due to stress. We want to help students to understand the dangers of Adderall. We can help them manage their stress so that they would not depend on Adderall or to help fight their addiction by outlining some resources available to them.

When a child with ADHD refuses to follow through on a reasonable request, it isn't always because they are defying your authority or being manipulative. Sometimes they simply are unable to comply with your request. It can be difficult to see the true nature of a child's behavior in the heat of the moment. This is a biological stress response. How can you react? What can you do to avoid future problems? This presentation will teach you how to calm your child down and how to solve their problems.
It was a live webinar. After Dr. Wayland's presentation, attendees were able to ask questions and hear from her.
Objectives:
Discuss the differences between top-down and bottom-up behaviors.
Learn how the autonomic nerve system works. When a person feels threatened, they feel safe, connected and secure.
Here are some ways people can respond to threats.
Here are some strategies that you can use to help your child when he or she is at different stages of regulation or dysregulation.
Sarah Wayland, PhD is a certified RDI (tm) consultant, and special needs care navigator. She lives in Riverdale Park. She is a member of numerous non-profit boards including The Arc of Prince George's County and The Parents' Place of MD. Guiding Exceptional Parents was her first company. It helps caregivers to navigate the support of children with neurological disabilities. Her website is www.guidingexceptionalparents.com.
