The Effects of ADD & ADHD Medication on Kids

featured image

Do you think your child is suffering from ADD, ADHD or some sort of mental disability? There are growing concerns about the relationship between children and medication abuse.

Because there is currently no biological marker for ADD or ADHD, doctors must diagnose patients based on behavioral observation and personal opinion. This has led to high rates of children being overprescribed or misusing their medications throughout the United States. Learn more about the serious repercussions of improperly prescribing stimulants, antipsychotics, and various other drugs, and what it means for your child.

A paediatrician at Mediclinic explains how they diagnose children of school-going age with ADHD by first excluding all other possible causes of ADHD symptoms. She will explain when medication should be considered and which other treatment options are available.

In this episode, I host Dr. Samer Hattar, Chief of the Section on Light and Circadian Rhythms at the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Hattar, a world-renowned expert, discusses how light viewing at certain times can affect our mood, ability learn, stress levels, hormone levels, appetite and mental health. How to use your personal light sensitivity to find the best sleep-wake rhythm for you. In order to optimize mental and physical function, we also discuss how to use your light viewing and waking times to coordinate with your food intake and exercise. Dr. Hattar is responsible for discovering the neurons within the eye that regulate mood and appetite and set our circadian clocks. Because our cells and circadian clocks are interconnected across many days, even a small shift in daylight savings can have huge effects on biking. He also provides specific tools that can be used to quickly adjust to shift work and jetlag. This episode contains cutting-edge information on human physiology as well as practical tools that can be used by people of all ages.

ADHD Diagnosis in Adults - Success Story #3 , ADHD in Adults

featured image

http://adhdinadults.com Dr. Lenard Adler describes the story of a male in his 40’s that was diagnosed and treated for Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) shortly after his child was tested and diagnosed. Parents often gain a better understanding of ADHD by identifying ADHD symptoms in their children. This success story shows that the parent saw similar symptoms in his life and had successfully dealt with them. Adler suggests that parents screen their children for ADHD.

Are your child hyperactive and impulsive? Do they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? These ADHD guidelines can help you determine if your child needs a checkup.

Step 1: Take note of their attention span
You can see their ability to concentrate. While most children are able to pay attention, ADHD sufferers seem to have a shorter attention span than other children. However, they can't seem to listen to their parents even when they speak to them. They often lose their things, have difficulty following instructions and make many careless mistakes.

Step 2: Rate their hyperactivity
If they seem to be too energetic, even for children, it is important to recognize this. Do they have trouble sitting still? Are they prone to running or climbing in inappropriate ways? Do they often get in trouble at school because they can't sit still? Are they a constant talker? Do they interrupt constantly?

Tip
Some children are more attentive than others, and vice versa. Boys are more likely than girls to have attention problems.

Step 3: Consider how long it has lasted
Take into account how long this behavior has been ongoing. ADHD is a diagnosis that can be confirmed if symptoms are present for longer than six months.

Step 4: Look at where it is
Take note of where they behave. ADHD could be the cause of their symptoms if they are only present at home or at school.

Step 5: Assess the seriousness
Assess the severity of the problem. ADHD children are often disruptive at school and home. ADHD children have problems with their relationships with other children and adults.

Step 6: Visit the doctor
You should take your child to the pediatrician if you notice any of these symptoms. Before ADHD can be diagnosed, it is important for your child to have a medical exam.

Did You Know?
ADHD was twice as common in children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy than in those whose mothers didn't smoke.

Concerta Methylphenidate Dosages & Tolerance - My Experience

featured image

In this video, I discuss my usage of Concerta Methylphenidate. Many people have asked me about how much Concerta I use. Also many probably think has my tolerance for Concerta gone up over the years? Nowadays I use 18-36 mg of Concerta a day. I take usually weekends off from Concerta and also sometimes I take 1-2 week off on holidays. This I think has helped me in keeping my Concerta tolerance low. Overall I am very satisfied with Concerta, who knows what will happen in 5-10 years, lets see then.

Most families are never provided with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) ADHD treatment recommendations, because most health care and mental health providers do not know the recommendations.

As a result, families are referred to ineffective treatments like individual "talk therapy"/counseling for kids, despite the fact there is no evidence indicating that individual talk therapy is helpful in treating ADHD-related challenges.

In this video I explain the AAP treatment recommendations for ADHD. ADHD Dude provides Parent Behavior Training (a recommended treatment) through the ADHD Dude Membership Site. The Parent Behavior Training program is the first designed specifically for parents of kids with ADHD and is called 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 & 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲: www.adhddudecourses.com

Anxiety disorders can occur along with bipolar disorder and there is some overlap in the way anxiety and mania look that it's not always clear which it is. Why does this matter? Because one of the ways people can remain stable with bipolar disorder is to recognize early signs of either depression or mania so that you can intervene early to prevent the episode from blossoming. If a manic episode is coming, that intervention is most likely adjusting your mood stabilizer. But you don't want to do that if it's anxiety.

Here's are the symptoms that look similar with anxiety and mania.
Racing thoughts
Concentration problems
Mood irritability
Inability to sleep
Restlessness or agitation

Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness, fear or dread. It can have physical manifestations, but it starts with a feeling. Mania is state of hyperarousal, like having an internal motor where the dial has been turned up.

So in some ways, anxiety and mania can be thought of as behaving in opposite directions. Even though they share some characteristics, with anxiety the feelings converge upon you and affect you physically and with mania your physical state explodes your feelings.

Concerta Methylphenidate Dosages & Tolerance - My Experience

featured image

In this video, I discuss my usage of Concerta Methylphenidate. Many people have asked me how much Concerta I take. Many people also wonder if my tolerance for Concerta has increased over time. Nowadays I use 18-36 mg of Concerta a day. Concerta is usually taken off my weekends, and sometimes I also take 1-2 weeks off for holidays. This has helped me keep my Concerta tolerance low. Concerta is a great product. I’m very happy with it. Let’s see what happens in five -10 year.

What it feels like to take ADHD medication: My first day on Vyvanse (Elvanse)

featured image

What it feels like to take ADHD medication? It’s something I have always wondered about, so here is my story of my first day with Vyvanse (Elvanse). This is about how the stimulant medication affects your ability to focus, drink, and eat, as well as sleep disturbances and social skills. This will help you to understand the feelings of an ADHD person and what to expect when you start taking ADHD medication. Although it is not easy to adjust to the new medication in the first few days of treatment, it’s helpful to have a plan so that you are prepared for what to do.
