As noteworthy as my meds encourage me, it’s a fight to preserve in solutions to carry out your total things I must carry out in an effort to steal them: join smartly being insurance coverage, pay my invoice, carry out a health care provider appointment, GO to that appointment, gain my prescription, get a pharmacy that may possibly possibly bear it, make certain to make your mind up it up sooner than it closes, make certain to bring my ID so that they’ll let me...

So after I omit a step and get myself without my meds, it’s easy to surprise...are they truthfully main?

Right here's what took attach apart after I forgot to pay my smartly being insurance coverage, stopped taking my medication for two weeks and tried to learn to dwell without it.

Please share -- for the explanation that stigma is precise, and no one may possibly possibly possibly additionally just peaceable must feel ashamed for getting the medication they need just ensuing from their dysfunction is psychological in attach apart of physical, invisible in attach apart of glaring.

Mental smartly being is barely as crucial as physical smartly being, and it’s time we acknowledge that.

*NOTE* -- I carry out no longer point out going off medication without a health care provider's supervision. A clinical expert wants to be accessible to troubleshoot complications. While which you can possibly possibly additionally't attain your doctor, consult with a pharmacist.

Anxiety Cells Found in the Brain - How They Did It

featured image

Researchers have found the origin of anxiety in the hippocampus of mice. This has far-reaching effects on how we look at and treat anxiety in humans. Neuroscientists at Columbia University Medical Center and University of California San Francisco collaborated on a study and discovered certain brain cells in the hippocampus of mice that fires when the mouse becomes anxious and triggers certain anxiety behaviors. In this video I discuss the details of their findings and discuss the implications this has for future anxiety treatment.

What is Cyclothymia? – How is it different from bipolar disorder?

featured image

What is cyclothymia and how is it different from Bipolar disorder? In this video I compare the symptoms of bipolar disorder versus cyclothymic disorder, discuss when it starts and whether or not it turns into bipolar disorder.

In short, the best way to think about cyclothymia is to think of similar to bipolar 2 disorder but not quite as severe and not as many symptoms. With bipolar 2 disorder you have episodes of hypomania and episodes of depression. With cyclothymic you have symptoms of hypomania but not enough to be considered a hypomanic episode. You also have symptoms of depression but not enough to be considered a full depressive episode.

What is Cyclothymia and how can it be distinguished from bipolar disorder? What is Cyclothymia and how does it differ from bipolar disorder.

featured image

What is cyclothymia and how is it different from Bipolar disorder? This video compares bipolar disorder and cyclothymic disorders. I also discuss when it begins and whether it becomes bipolar disorder.

Cyclothymia can be described as similar to bipolar 2, but with fewer symptoms and less severe episodes. Bipolar 2 disorder can cause episodes of hypomania or depression. Cyclothymic has symptoms of hypomania, but not enough for it to be classified as a hypomanic episode. There are also symptoms of depression, but they are not severe enough to be considered a complete depressive episode.

Three Signs Your Mania Is Coming (The Manic Prodrome)

featured image

What are the early signs that you’re getting ready to have a manic episode? These early signs are known as the prodrome. It is possible to spot early signs of manic episodes and help prevent or reduce the severity of the episode.

Bipolar disorder can be progressive. Each episode builds momentum. The prodrome refers to the time when milder symptoms are present before more severe symptoms. This can last from weeks to months. You can have a prodromal phase before you develop depression.

Prodromal symptoms of mania include an increased mood, decreased sleep need and increased activity. These symptoms may last for weeks before they become a manic, hypomanic or out-of-control episode.

This video explains how to spot these signs early.

This video will show you what you can do to help your ADHD. This is a follow up to a video I did it on executive function. That video is What is Executive Function - How it Relates to ADHD Y

When it comes to non-medication ways to manage your ADHD symptoms, we can break it down into three domains: time management, organization and planning.

People with ADHD typically have trouble estimating how long things will take and adjusting their schedules accordingly. As a result you may be frequently late to things or this can even affect your ability to finish things because you don’t take into account how long it should take. With ADHD, the loss of time is a cumulative effect.
Step one to master this time management skill is to have constant access to timepieces.
Start by getting a watch and having an adequate number of clocks visible to you in areas where you spend time.
Then create your time log using your watch and your clocks. That may take you several days to do. And start with the big things you do like getting ready for work, chores, eating dinner, getting ready for bed. This list can also include things that you do at work so you can have a better understanding of how you use your time at work.

This it’s to help you appreciate Time.
Lastly you get a daily and a weekly or monthly planner. You’re going to use the daily planner to track your appointments, obligations and to do list. And you’re going to consult the planner twice a day. In the morning to appreciate the scope of your day and in the evening to reflect on how your day transpired and review what you've got going on tomorrow. It also gives you a chance to reschedule things you didn’t complete.

Want to know more about mental health and self-improvement? What is Suicidal Thought Really?

featured image

We tend to characterize suicidal thoughts in two ways. Passive and active. When you plan out your actions, active suicidal thinking occurs. Although you may not have actually created the plan, you are still considering your options. You can still start to implement the plan.

Self-harm is sometimes mistaken for suicide. It may be intentional, but it can also be a result of someone cutting themselves to relieve tension and make them feel more real. Overdoses of pills may be used by some people to seek help or to let others know they are suffering.

You can make a suicide plan. This should be done with the guidance of your doctor or therapist. You can also think it through yourself if you don’t have one. A safety plan is a list that includes coping strategies and support resources you can use in times of suicidal thoughts. This safety plan is 6-steps and is based on research. I also have references. These steps will need to be written down. I’ll provide a link to a template you can download from this website.

Step 1 – Identify warning signs.
Step 2 – Write down your coping strategies.
Step 3: Identify social contacts and settings that could distract you from the crisis.
Step 4: Engage friends and family members. List 3 or more people, in order of priority. The first person to be added should be the most supportive. Step 5: Contact a professional agency.
Step 6 – Make your environment safe.

Last but not least, ask yourself: What is one thing in your life that is most important
?sufficient to keep me alive. This is the one thing you should write down so that you can stay focused on the main reason why you are going to implement your plan.

Today, we will be discussing anxiety and how to turn it off like a switch. Anxiety is derived from the Latin "angere", which means "to strangle."
The book "Autonomic Nerves", which is interesting, describes fight and flight as "The flight or fight response is a physiological reaction to a real threat to one’s safety." Depending on what the threat is, the person may either defend themselves (fight) or flee from it (flight). Both fight and flight require rapid vigorous muscle action.

What does it feel like to have anxiety?
1. Racing heart
2. Sweating
3. Shaking
4. Throat constrict
5. Breathing changes
6. Blurry vision/dizziness 7. Nausea
8. Irritation
9. Worry
10. Poor concentration

Many people suffering from anxiety have poor diets that are high in stimulants. Many people with anxiety seem to have a low intake of vitamin B1.

How to manage anxiety:

1. Probiotics
2. B-vitamins (especially B1)
3. Magnesium

After years of questioning, therapy, burnout, and chaotic career path changes, I finally understood why I struggled with so many things.
So I decided to share what I learned to raise awareness around ADHD and help the ADHD community thrive.

The truth about ADHD Masking.
People with ADHD don't always feel safe around others who don't have the disorder. We may feel judged and stigmatized by society, and as a coping mechanism, we hide or mask our ADHD symptoms to avoid feeling seen.
Masking doesn't always develop in adults. Sometimes it's learned during childhood. Parents and other grown-ups would sometimes tell us to: « stop fidgeting », « stop talking so much », and "pay attention." While they mean well, children with ADHD symptoms learn that being themselves isn't safe, so they adopt a mask as a survival tool.
Another reason for masking is that most people with ADHD are misunderstood. We can't always comfortably be ourselves around others because we may be labeled rude or weird. And what can ADHD masking look like in different situations? Here are some common examples.
There are times when someone is speaking, and we listen or focus too hard on their words, so we don't miss any details.
Hyperactivity is sometimes masked by trying to feign calmness. But in reality, our mind jumps from one thing to another, and we can't correctly process what's happening at the moment. At social gatherings, we may try to copy other people's behavior to fit in. This can mean suppressing leg bouncing or simply nodding at someone talking, so we don't interrupt. Masking our symptoms can be exhausting, and truthfully, its disadvantages far outweigh its benefits.

One of the pitfalls of masking is that it can end up delaying our ADHD diagnosis. We hide it so well that we may not even recognize that there's already a problem. Remember getting an official diagnosis can help get us a proper treatment plan from a psychologist.
Another risk of masking is developing anxiety and depression. Because we bottle up so much stress without expressing it, the feelings might surface as fear, worry, loneliness, or even anger.
Lastly, we're not able to live as our genuine selves and express what we truly feel. We may feel that we're becoming someone else entirely because of our mask.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is denoted by impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. Although ADHD is perceived to be most commonly diagnosed in boys during childhood, there are many stereotypes that are attached to this disorder that make it difficult for girls and women to be diagnosed with ADHD. This video highlights common misconceptions of ADHD that leave women largely undiagnosed and the potential implications of these misconceptions.

This video was made by McMaster students Steffi Arkilander, Vivian Bai, and Ava George in collaboration with the McMaster Demystifying Medicine Program.

These symptoms may last for weeks before they become a manic, hypomanic, or out-of-control episode.

This video explains how to spot these signs early.
