Listen as your host, Eric Tivers, and his guest Juliet discuss the intersectionality not just with ADHD but also as a woman and a mom who is on the Autism spectrum and recently diagnosed with PTSD. Juliet is currently in recovery. She has participated in several twelve-step programs and worked as a counselor for drug and alcohol abuse.

Juliet tells her story, and how it was for her as a young girl with autism spectrum disorder. Juliet talks about her childhood sexual abuse and how she didn't get help. The untreated trauma impacted her entire life. Juliet discusses her eating disorder and alcoholism.

Juliet talks about her experiences with twelve-step programs. She also discusses how addiction can be a symptom or a result of circumstances. Juliet also discusses how other issues can arise and how you need to deal with them all. Juliet discusses how she untangles sensory processing and Autism, as well as the trauma in her body. Juliet also discusses her speech inarticulation problems and how trauma triggers her brain's language function.

Dogs can be wonderful for ADHD brains!

But a lot of these benefits depend on you having a good relationship with your dog, so make sure you choose one that’s right for you and your family. Do as much research ahead of time as possible and make sure you meet your new family member in person before you commit!

WARNING: There are many “registries” that are essentially scams. You do NOT need to register your emotional support animal, or have a vest or ID card for them. All you need is a letter from your doctor or therapist explaining why you need one.

For service animals, which autistic people often benefit from, you do not need a vest either, although many handlers choose to use one. What makes a service dog a service dog is the specialized training they go through to provide a specific task or tasks to assist with their handler’s disability and be able to behave in public places.

*CORRECTION NOTICEAt 1: 15 I noted that in 1960 it was reported a racemic mixture of amphetamine could be used to control ADHD symptoms. However, I stated that it was approved by FDA for treatment of ADHD in 1996.. The treatment of ADHD in 1996. was approved by the FDA. However, it was approved in a 3:1 ratio between the d- and l-isomers (as I explain at 3 15 in this video), and not the racemic mixture in the 1960 research.

A brief overview of Metabolism of Lisdexamfetamine, (Vyvanse), and other pertinent information provided by a classmate (give him credit for finding all of the sources). ALL information presented was acquired from recently published (2010-2014) PRIMARY scientific journal articles, which are cited at the end of the video. The articles used were/were, to the best of our knowledge/knowledge, the most current and advanced articles available on the metabolism Lisdexamfetamine. Feel free to comment below if you have any questions, feel that something is unclear, missed something, or if you feel we misunderstood something. Youtube is a place I frequent often, so i will make every effort to reply to you quickly. A thumbs up for our video is always appreciated!

364 | Not Like The Other Brains with William Curb from Hacking Your ADHD

featured image

It’s been a year since William Curb started the Hacking Your ADHD podcast and we’re celebrating. Correction: In true ADHD style, it has been a year + 3 months or so. Either way, having reached this milestone is huge and we are celebrating.

Creating and sustaining a podcast is a lesson in discipline for ANY podcaster but even more so for someone who has also been diagnosed with ADHD. Having set systems definitely helps but there are so many new facets of the disorder that you’ll face as you try to keep a steady schedule that it’s almost like learning a whole new tool.

William takes the time to script his podcast so he keeps them fairly short and on task, but doing this means that he occasionally misses production dates. This is perfectly fine because he has kept on going regardless.

Listen as we chat about when automation helps (and when it doesn’t), what the future looks like for Hacking Your ADHD, and how having the podcast has helped him to address various ADHD symptoms. He’s also sharing a bit about how he hacks his ADHD and how he’s altering those hacks for his 5-year old daughter. In true Hacking Your ADHD fashion, we end this one with an amazing dad joke courtesy of William’s very large “dad joke library.” Listen in to hear it all.

You’ll learn: [02: 08] Welcome to ADHD reWired, William Curb. [04: 17] William shares the learning process he has gone through as he works on his Podcast. [06: 26] How ADHD makes podcast production challenging. [09: 16] Quick thoughts on automation and creating systems. [12: 31] Why using what we have is sometimes harder than just buying more. [16: 27] Has William considered writing a book? [22: 49] What does the future look like for Hacking Your ADHD? [26: 29] How has he been doing with letting go of perfectionistic tendencies? [29: 02] Has listening to himself helped with his speech? [31: 18] Learn more about how his scripts have evolved over time. [35: 51] What kinds of things would he like to try out with the podcast? [43: 56] William shares ways he hacks his ADHD. [48: 11] How timers have helped him manage his time and productivity. [53: 01] It doesn’t matter if someone else is teaching the same thing. Learn why? [57: 22] Why his ADHD network is partially responsible for the success of the podcast. [59: 04] A quick dad joke to make your day. [1: 00: 22] If you are a regular listener, consider becoming a patron by clicking on our Patreon tab at www.ADHDreWired.com Will’s site is here: Hacking Your ADHD

Watch more How to Understand Child Psychology videos: y

For many families medication is a necessary option to treat the symptoms of ADHD. In this instance, you would contact your pediatrician, your child's psychologist or your pediatric neurologist to help abate some of the symptoms of ADHD. It's really important to sit down with this professional and ask questions about positive outcome, about potential side effects and how well your child can tolerate these medications. Typically for ADHD, the medications of choice are stimulant medications and non-stimulant medications. Some of the more common stimulant medications include Ritalin, and Dexadrine, and Adderal, or Focalin or Vyvanse. And some of these are long lasting long acting medications and some are very short acting. Often, your medical doctor will use some of these medications in combination to best help your child. Sometimes children can't tolerate the side effects of the stimulant medications, so your medical professional may suggest something that's a non-stimulant. Stratera is a popular brand of medication. One thing that I always tell parents that's very important, if you're trying medication with your child, stay in very close contact with your medical doctor. And make sure if there are any changes in your child's behavior or symptoms, that you immediately let them know. Also, teachers and other adults that are working with your child are very good sources of information to let you know whether your child's symptoms have actually improved or if there are some other issues that need to be addressed. While there are many medication options to treat ADHD, it's really important that parents consider what we've said here and discuss the treatment strategies with their medical doctor.

Dr Stephen Humphries of Harley Therapy discusses ADHD, including symptoms, effects on particular areas of the brain, different treatments, and medication successes ( .

ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neuro development disorder that more commonly presents in childhood, but can and does persist into adulthood.

Dr Stephen Humphries FRC Psych is a Consultant Psychiatrist at Harley Therapy ( Harley Street in London. In this video he talks about how ADHD is diagnosed - by Clinical interview and specialist Psychometric testing.

Although less widely diagnosed in adults in the UK than it is in the US or Canada, ADHD is a relatively common condition. Common symptoms can be anxiety, lack of confidence or depression, but standard treatments for these conditions can just make ADHD worse.

In our other videos, Dr Humphries discusses what kind of treatments are available for adult ADHD and how medication, in particular, can be spectacularly successful.

Dr Humphries can usually see a new patient within a week of a referral with the assessment available within 10 days of the appointment. However there is no obligation to follow up with the treatment. So to book an assessment, contact today.

You’ll learn: [02:08] Welcome to ADHD reWired, William Curb. [04:17] William shares the learning process he has gone through as he works on his Podcast. [06:26] How ADHD makes podcast production challenging. [09:16] Quick thoughts on automation and creating systems. [12:31] Why using what we have is sometimes harder than just buying more. [16:27] Has William considered writing a book? [22:49] What does the future look like for Hacking Your ADHD? [26:29] How has he been doing with letting go of perfectionistic tendencies? [29:02] Has listening to himself helped with his speech? [31:18] Learn more about how his scripts have evolved over time. [35:51] What kinds of things would he like to try out with the podcast? [43:56] William shares ways he hacks his ADHD. [48:11] How timers have helped him manage his time and productivity. [53:01] It doesn’t matter if someone else is teaching the same thing. Learn why? [57:22] Why his ADHD network is partially responsible for the success of the podcast. [59:04] A quick dad joke to make your day. The next episode (Ep.5) is coming soon! "Was that something I said?" I remember when a friend would introduce me with their friends. Conversations are lively, people are laughing, and then suddenly, I feel a sharp elbow hit me in the ribs or get serious side-eyes from said-friend. I broke the rules of small-talk by "getting to the point". It's fine to be direct and hate polite small talk. You don't have to go into someone else's head or heart when you can simply take the express way. Right? Right?? Yes, it's true that you can meet your own needs and also help someone else. What if your radar isn't able to tell you when your foot is in front of your mouth? You might not be able to pick up social cues until you are scolded by "friends" about how rude and too familiar you are with strangers. You are so "off-putting". Each quote you have just read is an insult/correction from anyone, from family members to best buddies. And, former best friends. The truth is that your directness isn't your problem. It's the other people's judgments and narrow view of "normal" social behaviour. Normal is people who do not have ADHD, Asperger's, or other neurodiverse wiring. "Normal" means people who can "boldly", be direct, "boldly", state our intentions, and "boldly," announce their entrance to the room. Miss Manners doesn't see anything unusual about the way we interact. "Bold" is a polite way to say "there's something wrong" or "that wasn't right" or any other insult that can make us doubt our abilities and cause us to lose faith. Can you see it? This is another brick we add to our wall to make us feel less awkward around others who are eager to judge us for being...uniquely awkwardly us.
