Signs You Have ADHD, Not "Dumb"

featured image

We have all experienced moments in life where people called us ‘stupid’, ‘dumb’, or other harsh words. Sometimes people may say it so often that you end up believing them even though deep down you know that you are far from ‘stupid’. Sadly, this negative stereotype has been used to describe those who struggled with undiagnosed ADHD. To help you reduce this stigma, here are a few signs of ADHD, not being “dumb”…

We also made a video on the signs of ADHD, not laziness:

Yes, water titration: an important topic since Vyvanse first came out, and this is the *single most visited post at CorePsych for over 8 years.*

To see the connection between brain science and common sense: details, evidence matters.

This point is #7: Take the Vyvanse capsule at the lowest dose, 20mg, break it 1/2 and pour the powdered contents into 2 oz of water in a measuring cup. Throw away the gelatin capsule.

We've had excellent results dosing down to 5mg using 4 oz of water on the 20 mg capsule of Vyvanse. And, yes, it's OK in the refrigerator - just mark it so someone else doesn't drink it. Do tell your doc, but rest assured, they won't have a problem if you consider even more careful dosing.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder remains the most prevalent psychiatric disorder. Generalized anxiety disorder symptoms include unease, dread, or foreboding, as well as excessive, unrealistic worry. Generalized Anxiety Disorder is also known for feeling muscle tension, restlessness, impaired concentration, insomnia, and impaired concentration.

Generalized anxiety disorder can be complicated by irritability and other symptoms such as trembling, headaches, sweating, trembling, trembling, and gastrointestinal problems. These symptoms are often more common than the anxiety disorder itself. They may be referred to a psychiatrist and treated for the presenting symptoms rather than the underlying psychiatric condition.

To make it even more difficult to diagnose, many people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder also have a variety of psychiatric disorders. These include panic attacks, depression, and social anxiety disorder. It is difficult to diagnose and provide appropriate treatment for somatic and other psychiatric conditions.

Women are twice as likely to experience generalized anxiety disorder as men. The symptoms tend to start in the early 20s for men, while they are more common in the later 20s for women. A smaller peak is seen in those over 50. African Americans are more likely to experience depression than Caucasians.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, or as it is more commonly known, SSRIs or SNRIs may be used for treatment. Although benzodiazepines can effectively muffle symptoms, drugs such as Klonipin, Ativan, and Xanax are currently out of favor with professional and government organizations. Patients and doctors both favor the drugs known as "benzos" despite this.

ADHD Diagnosis in Adults - Success Story #3 , ADHD in Adults

featured image

http://adhdinadults.com Dr. Lenard Adler describes the story of a male in his 40’s that was diagnosed and treated for Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) shortly after his child was tested and diagnosed. Parents often gain a better understanding of ADHD by identifying ADHD symptoms in their children. This success story shows that the parent saw similar symptoms in his life and had successfully dealt with them. Adler suggests that parents screen their children for ADHD.

Are your child hyperactive and impulsive? Do they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? These ADHD guidelines can help you determine if your child needs a checkup.

Step 1: Take note of their attention span
You can see their ability to concentrate. While most children are able to pay attention, ADHD sufferers seem to have a shorter attention span than other children. However, they can't seem to listen to their parents even when they speak to them. They often lose their things, have difficulty following instructions and make many careless mistakes.

Step 2: Rate their hyperactivity
If they seem to be too energetic, even for children, it is important to recognize this. Do they have trouble sitting still? Are they prone to running or climbing in inappropriate ways? Do they often get in trouble at school because they can't sit still? Are they a constant talker? Do they interrupt constantly?

Tip
Some children are more attentive than others, and vice versa. Boys are more likely than girls to have attention problems.

Step 3: Consider how long it has lasted
Take into account how long this behavior has been ongoing. ADHD is a diagnosis that can be confirmed if symptoms are present for longer than six months.

Step 4: Look at where it is
Take note of where they behave. ADHD could be the cause of their symptoms if they are only present at home or at school.

Step 5: Assess the seriousness
Assess the severity of the problem. ADHD children are often disruptive at school and home. ADHD children have problems with their relationships with other children and adults.

Step 6: Visit the doctor
You should take your child to the pediatrician if you notice any of these symptoms. Before ADHD can be diagnosed, it is important for your child to have a medical exam.

Did You Know?
ADHD was twice as common in children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy than in those whose mothers didn't smoke.

MY MISSION
To spread awareness about nonhyperactive ADHD (or what I refer to as “Hidden ADHD”) in order to assist others who are suffering from it. They should know what they can do to help. They should know they are not lazy, unmotivated, or willfully irresponsible. They should know that they have the potential to realize their full potential and live the life they desire.
