Random, unintentional thinking like you do when your mind wanders happens in a different part of the brain than intentional thoughts. And too much mind wandering is bad for you in that it makes you more anxious and unhappy. In this video, I explain why mind wandering increases your anxiety and unhappiness and two things you can do about it.

WHAT IS ADHD?
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), is a condition that can affect people's behavior. ADHD patients can be restless and have trouble concentrating, as well as acting on impulse.

ADHD symptoms are often detected early in life and can become more apparent when circumstances change such as when children start school.

The majority of cases are diagnosed between 3 and 7 years of age, although it can sometimes be diagnosed later in childhood.

Sometimes ADHD is not recognized as a diagnosis when a child is a teenager. However, they can be diagnosed later in life.

ADHD symptoms usually improve with age. However, many adults who are diagnosed with it at an early age still experience difficulties.

ADHD patients may also experience anxiety and sleep problems.

Watch more mental health stories at
Find out more about panic attacks s
Make your own mental health story /

"So I’m making this video primarily to address the misconceptions surrounding panic attacks and anxiety disorders, and I should point out that before I had my first anxiety attack, you know, I had some these of misconceptions myself.

I should point out this started in my mid-twenties, so it can flare up at any point, and the way it manifested for me primarily was panic attacks usually in the evening when I was trying to get some sleep.

So I’d get about five to ten minutes’ sleep and then, boom! I’d be woken up by a racing heart and tension headache. I should mention that my father passed away of a stroke at 45, so when I get a pain in my head, I think, boom! You know, this is it, I think. So if we start with my first experience, one of my best friends took me to hospital and the doctors were convinced that I was having a heart attack. They gave me the drugs to treat me for a heart attack. I had various ECGs, various tests.

I had a chest x-ray. All my information was sent to a specialist hospital in London because they couldn’t… It wasn’t anything obvious, but when all that information came back clear, that’s when the doctor actually came in and had a conversation with me and said, you know, I am a fearful, panicky person, to which me and my friend were laughing because I’m sitting there saying, Listen I’ve done stand-up comedy around London.

I’ve got an acting background. That does not describe me. But the doctor said, you know, anxiety, panic attacks are going to affect most people in their life to varying degrees. So the way that I managed, manage my condition now is through medication, and the way I look at it is essentially like an asthmatic. They can’t control when their body has an attack. You know, they always constrict, and they need their medication to, you know, to help them, and it’s the same for me personally with my mental health disorder, is…

You know, my brain does things that I can’t control, and that’s what the medication helps with me. And I kind of found this out the hard way because I neglected my medication for about two years. And at my lowest point, you know, I wouldn’t even make a decision about what to have for dinner. So things that I would say are very important is, you know, is you have to notice the little changes, and it’s very hard to notice that when you’re in the moment because, you know, you feel normal. So arguably, you are normal when sometimes it’s not quite the case.

So I think it’s very important to find a baseline, you know, and just be aware of your baseline and have a close friend or relative or someone, you know, you trust who can, you know, just tell you when you’re slightly off and then you can make adjustments or, you know, do what you need to do to be aware of that. Because, as I say, when you’re in the moment, you really… You don’t feel like there’s a problem, and that’s when it can, you know, when it can spiral. And also be aware that it manifests in many different ways.

You know, in that two-year period where I was neglecting my medication, I didn’t have a single panic attack, but I was very indecisive. I wasn’t balanced. There was an unbridled fear within me. So it was affecting me in another way, and I think the lack of panic attacks was one of the key reasons that I thought I was actually fine when I wasn’t. But I think knowledge is power, and the more knowledge you have of the condition, you know, the more you can be aware of it and actually keep yourself nice and balanced.

So I’m happy to talk to anyone. I’ll keep an eye on the comments, but you’ll get there guys, so just stay positive, and if anyone wants to chat, I’ll be here."

Take this ADHD test: /

What are the most common symptoms of adult ADHD? What happens to ADD after puberty About two-thirds (32%) of ADHD children have symptoms that last beyond puberty. These symptoms can impact their daily lives as adults. Only a small percentage of ADHD adults are aware they have it.

As ADHD research continues to improve, so too are the diagnoses of people in their 30s and beyond.

ADHD symptoms can manifest in adulthood as ...

-Forgetfulness

Poor attention to detail -Impulsivity
-Poor memory
-Lacking focus
-Social failures

This self-test video will help you determine if attention deficit disorder may be present.

Edit Feb 2022: the ever-so requested update video is up now:

Another edit: I take vyvanse. Idk why I didn’t mention that

Being told I had ADHD at 19 years old was unexpected on my end. Maybe if you've seen my videos before not so much....

Correction from the video: I mentioned three 'varieties' of ADHD: these are more just different ways it presents, not actually different forms of ADHD

anyhow, I feel joy now. SO that's good. If you need help, please reach out to someone or a program you can trust :)

ADHD and Friendships: How To Play the Social Game

featured image

The way ADHD brains develop can put us out of step with our childhood peers, leaving us feeling awkward, left out and with social anxiety that can follow us into adulthood. This article will discuss my personal experiences and provide simple solutions.

note — One of the Brains mentioned that peers and the Internet aren’t always the most reliable sources of information. This is true. Cultural differences exist and biases such as racism and sexism can be present. Also, the best advice might not work for everyone.

I hope that we can sort through all of the information and then decide if it is right for us.

In any event, if I had known what to expect at a sleepover, what it takes to be a good host, or what the appropriate manner is for first dates, I would have been a lot better prepared to handle the situations that I was in.

Anxiety BC - /

When anxiety causes distress or interference that is much greater than anxiety experienced by other children of the same age, it may be called an anxiety disorder. In this case, the term "disorder" simply indicates that the anxiety problem is significant enough and has lasted long enough (usually at least a number of weeks or months) to be considered a problem that warrants intervention. Commonly, children and teens experience anxiety problems that are characteristic of more than one anxiety disorder. Fortunately, the helpful approaches are similar for various anxiety problems.

If your child has been diagnosed as having a mild to moderate anxiety disorder, it will most likely fit into this list of seven anxiety disorders and subtypes:

Separation Anxiety Disorder
Specific Phobias
Social Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Here’s everything you need to know about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. Thomas E. Brown, PhD, discusses ADHD diagnosis, ADHD symptoms, available ADHD treatment options, and ADHD medication.

As our expert says, ADD/ADHD is not a behavior problem. It has far more to do with the brain’s management system. Remember, ADHD has nothing to do with how smart a person is.
