Hello Brains! Having trouble Doing the Thing? You’re not alone. Motivation is one of the biggest challenges most ADHDers face. This episode is all about how to fix Motivation Bridge.
Special thanks to Doctor B from TakeThis.org for coming up with the clever phrase “fill in the planks” — and for motivating me in so many ways.

http://adhdinadults.com/ Adult ADHD treatment requires a multi-modal approach that blends medication with other components such as patient education, self-education and coaching. Other coping treatment options for ADHD include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), social skills groups and vocational assessment / counseling that can improve patient functioning and the overall quality of life. Anthony Rostain MD/MA, is the Medical Director for the Penn Medicine Adult ADHD Program and recommends that patients utilize these additional treatment options to compliment ADHD medication.
Patient education occurs through discussions between adults with ADHD and physicians. The conversation should include ADHD treatment options and the impact of ADHD in the daily life of those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Self-education is recommended to help the patient cope better with ADHD as it familiarizes people with online resources that are available. Finally, coaching can complement treatment options by offering structure and organization techniques to assist those suffering with ADHD in their daily life.
Robert Tudisco is the Executive Director of ADHD Coaching and explains how networks of ADHD coaches exist to provide support to adults and students who have been diagnosed with ADHD. The organization created to provide this support for ADHD students and adults is called The Edge Foundation. The Edge Foundation is a resource in public schools across the country and recognizes the benefits of ADHD diagnosis. Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD) can also help provide support.
These alternative approaches are covered in educational seminars, click the link above for more information.

So the FDA just approved a new ADHD treatment! Its non drug related and created by a company called Neurosigma. The Treatment involves a small device called a Monarch external Trigeminal Nerve Stimulant (eTNS) And is worn at night to deliver small electrical pulses to the parts of the brain effected by ADHD. This device is currently only being approved for use by children aged 7-12 who have not received any prior ADHD treatment, but with such good results coming from trials it looks to be a matter of time before its available for adults too.

Dr. Thomas E. Brown leads a discussion which scientifically addresses Fear, Prejudices and Myth’s Associated with Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD / ADHD).
In this ADD / ADHD video, Dr. Brown answers the questions: What can be done to treat ADHD besides medication?
http://adhdinadults.com/ Anthony Rostain MD/MA, the Medical Director for the Penn Medicine Adult ADHD Program emphasizes the importance of knowing your patients when prescribing medication for the treatment of ADHD. Understanding the traits of “at risk” patients can help primary care providers identify the potential for medication abuse.
Most ADHD medications act as a stimulant and have the potential to be abused, especially in colleges and universities where prescriptions may be diverted from the original patient. This type of misuse is more common in colleges because stimulants serve as cognitive performance enhancers that students use while studying or and can sometimes be used recreationally.
Alternative, low risk, stimulant medications exist to treat ADHD. These include slow releasing (extended release amphetamines) that are stimulant medications with a reduced risk of abuse. Three non-stimulant medications are also available for ADHD patients.
Physicians may be concerned with medical and legal consequences that can occur if a patient is abusing or diverting federally controlled medication, such as Adderall. It is becoming increasingly common for Doctors to use careful documentation, such as a detailed contract about the medication and its use, which is signed by the patient. Doctors diagnosing ADHD in adults can use such contracts to avoid legal problems.

A few days ago, I decided to set to private the few videos I've made to date on the subject of preparing Vyvanse water. I did that because I was receiving a number of comments about them and didn't want to disappoint those trying out the drug for the first time.
In place of that, I wanted to record a video explaining (from a patient's perspective) how the ADHD vs. depression diagnostic process can actually be a difficult one for clinicians. It's taken me over a year of trying out different medications to find a drug that I think and hope will prove to be the right one.
Having taken both psychostimulants and Wellbutrin, I also wanted to offer my perspective on the differences between the two as medications. Or rather how they felt to me.
This video represents my experience as a patient only and is in no way intended as a substitute for professional medical advice. If you are concerned about your mental health, a doctor is the best place to start.

New ADHD Medication Rules: Brain Science & Common Sense s
In the last 10 years incredible neuroscience evidence about the communication networks between the brain, the endocrine system and the immune system encourage a complete rethinking of the many psychiatric platitudes and inadequate labels used currently for patient care. Everyday I teach these new-science understandings to medical colleagues, the public and to clients in the consultant rooms. As a writer [Deep Recovery, ADHD Medication Rules, CorePsych Blog], a neuroscientist certified for SPECT brain imaging, and a practicing child and adult psychiatrist, I’ve repeatedly witnessed the limitations of imprecise thinking for years. It’s time to add improved laboratory data to the core of everyday psychiatric practice. Join me to begin changing outdated, reductionistic thinking through understanding the latest biomedical evidence here at CoreBrain Training – where we turn mind science into common sense.

This is my review of the whole process from referral to diagnosis, treatment, and nearly a year of taking stimulants for ADHD.
If you think you have ADHD your GP can refer you for an ADHD assessment with your local provider or you can choose to go down the private route. NHS waiting times across the UK, especially in England, can take anything up to FIVE YEARS in some areas, with the majority of cases taking at least two years just to get an initial assessment.
April 2022 Update Psychiatry-UK is fully booked until at least October 2022 and is currently not taking bookings. The clinic will get in touch with referred patients as soon as possible, and they aim to schedule new clients in chronological order of the date their referrals were received. Their website is updated on a regular basis with new information.
Since posting this video a number of other clinics have been used through Right To Choose in England. The ADHD UK website has some useful information, including a letter you can send to your GP if your Right To Choose is declined.
Find out more at /
After waiting for two years for ADHD treatment through the NHS in England I eventually received treatment from Psychiatry-UK, a psychiatry service providing Adult ADHD Diagnosis and ADHD treatments virtually.
My own ADHD diagnosis in early childhood is in my medical records but the local ADHD provision rejected my referral to their service after several attempts by my doctor, because they would not re-diagnose ADHD and only treat patients that have been diagnosed by their service, leaving me in limbo, and potentially thousands of others.
Private ADHD treatment in the UK is relatively expensive, and not always accessible. I asked my GP to refer me to Psychiatry-UK (P-UK) for assessment and treatment under The NHS Choice Framework which gives you the Right To Choose your treatment provider. My GP agreed and the local commissioners agreed to fund my treatment.
Within two weeks of the GP referral, I had a virtual appointment with a psychiatrist specialising in ADHD and received a diagnosis (again!) of ADHD. Just having this in writing was a relief and a huge weight off my shoulders. The titration process began a week or two later and once I found a medication that seemed to help, my GP agreed to a shared care agreement so that I can now get prescriptions easily and via the NHS instead of paying hundreds of pounds each month.
I hope this has been useful. See some links below to find out what ADDtrepreneur is about and to learn more about adult ADHD in the UK.

The rising rate of ADHD has many parents wondering if the diagnosis is too subjective.
"I think there would probably be some chemical imbalance or something they would need to do further testing - other than making that decision or diagnosis just by looking at the child," says dad Kris Willing.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a clinical diagnosis based on a collection of symptoms rather than a single test. That opens it up to interpretation. If you wonder whether your child has ADHD, work with a doctor who follows nationally recognized standards set forth by governing pediatric and psychiatric groups.
"A lot of people think they can just spot a child and say 'oh that child is hyper active'. Meaning that sure it's an active child, it engages in a lot of gross motor behavior, but that doesn't mean that child has a disorder," says Dr. Elena Reyes, clinical psychologist with Lee Memorial Health System.
A key point in making an ADHD diagnosis is that symptoms must be present in more than one setting. Which is why the evaluation includes observations from parents, caregivers and teachers.
"When we actually do an evaluation for ADHD we really try to do a thorough evaluation. So what you're doing is not only observing the child, you're getting information from the parents but you're also getting information from the teacher. Because one of the things we know the demand characteristics in the classroom are very different than for example the dinner table or watching TV," says Reyes.
A psychologist, pediatrician or neurologist will rate a child's behavior compared to peers. Symptoms to look out for are: constant motion, fidgeting, distractedness and inability to finish tasks. Evaluations should wait until age seven. And remember, ADHD isn't a blanket for every bothersome behavior.
"It may just be a cause of today's technology- with kids being in front of iPad's and iPhones, tablets, whatever," says Willing.
