MY MISSION
To raise awareness about non-hyperactive ADHD (what I call “Hidden ADHD”) to help others who are struggling with it. I want them to know what they can do about it. I want them to know that they’re not lazy, unmotivated, and willfully irresponsible. I want them to know they can realize their potential and create the life of their dreams.

Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia) | Risk Factors, Pathogenesis, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Social Anxiety Disorder (also known as social phobia) is a very common chronic disorder involving excessive fear and anxiety during situations of social interaction and/or public performance (ex. public speaking). Several risk factors have been identified to increase the likelihood of having this disorder including having overprotective parenting and past negative experiences as a child, among many others. There are also several hypotheses for the underlying biological causes of social anxiety disorder including increased HPA axis functioning and increased levels activity in the amygdala. In this lesson, we discuss all of these things in more detail, along with symptoms and social situations in which these symptoms occur, and we also discuss how to diagnose this condition with DSM-5 criteria and an approach to treatment.
