Although prescription stimulants are often highly effective in reducing ADHD symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults, problems of non-medical misuse and abuse of prescription stimulants among adolescents, college students, and adults have become evident in recent years. Some students who need to get a lot of work done want the perceived benefits of stimulant medications. Friends, acquaintances, or even strangers will often ask other students who have a prescription to sell them their medication. In other cases, other students may steal medication from a student with ADHD. During this live webinar, you will learn what professionals, parents, and college students can do to prevent misuse, abuse, and diversion.

The Real History and Future of ADHD , ADHD in Adults

featured image

http://adhdinadults.com 100 years after the first known case of childhood attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder was published, adult ADHD still goes largely untreated and undiagnosed. Undiagnosed ADHD is thought to affect 10 millions of adults.

ADHD symptoms (hyperactivity and difficulty concentrating on tasks or concentrating) are different in adults than in children. Aduts also tend to work harder to make up for their deficiencies. It wasn’t until recent that doctors and psychiatrists began treating ADHD in adults. Adult ADHD was often questioned. Many people with attention deficit or hyperactivity disorder as children were believed that they could be treated in adulthood. This belief, also known by the Theory of Developmental Delay (or simply ADHD theory), was why doctors and insurance companies refused to approve ADHD drugs for children until they were adults. The American Medical Association (AMA) and American Psychiatric Association (APA) now recognize ADHD in adults.

Stephen V. Faraone PhD, SUNY Upstate Medical Professor of Psychiatry. This article explains why the condition has remained untreated for so long and encourages primary care providers to treat it. Click the link to find out more. Our website with

Vyvanse is very similar to Adderall except not as strong as fast. Vyvanse has a longer acting time so there is less tweaking. Vyvanse seems to be better than Adderall for people suffering from ADD/ADHD.

Two of Robert Whitaker's books on this subject are among the most cited in the literature: Mad in America (2002) and Anatomy of an Epidemic (2010). He has received numerous awards (listed below), including a George Polk Award for medical writing and a National Association of Science Writers Award for best magazine article. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 1998.

Whitaker's work has alerted both the medical community and the general public to the serious dangers of psychotropic medicines when used for extended periods. He has become a standard reference for the facts.

Robert Whitaker is a prominent medical writer, whose concentration is on psychiatric care and psychotropic drugs. In this presentation he provides important information about how ADHD —now an "epidemic"— is diagnosed and why users of medications for ADHD should be cautious. Recent news stories about the hazards of long-term ADHD medications and the more general use of these drugs to enhance concentration underscore the importance of Whitaker's discussion.
