https://grainedecannabis.net/2022/08/18/existential-wabbit-concerta-crash-acid/

Do you think you might have a bipolar disorder? Listen as your host, Eric Tivers, and his guest Malaika Tolford discuss her diagnosis of bipolar disorder and ADHD, how common it is to have both, and the difference between bipolar I and II, plus much more on this episode of ADHD reWired.

Malaika is a ceramic artist and owner of Place Value Pottery; she also teaches at a nonprofit craft organization. They diagnosed Malaika with bipolar two disorder in 2013 and added an ADHD diagnosis in January 2020, which provided some pieces of her mental health puzzle. She is a mom of two boys trying to navigate COVID while working from home and keeping out of the way of her husband's zoom meetings.

Listen as Malaika shares why she got in touch with Eric, the difference between bipolar I and II, and what led her to seek evaluation and diagnosis for bipolar disorder. Because of suicidal thoughts, Malaika sought medication for bipolar depression and was lucky enough that the first thing they tried worked for her.

Malaika discusses what happened in her life that led her to believe that she might also have ADHD, the struggle to figure out who she really was and how the pandemic made that journey even more difficult. Eric believes that if you can tolerate it, medication is one of the best treatments for ADHD.

Malaika speaks about her pottery business, how she has pivoted to online sales since the pandemic, and how pottery is relatable to both of her diagnoses. She describes her pottery and shares that she puts maps on all of her pieces because she likes geography, so please check out her work at Place Value Pottery if that is your thing.

You'll learn: [03: 28] Welcome to the show, Malaika! [04: 22] Malaika discusses why she got in touch with Eric. [07: 19] Malaika shares what she understands about bipolar and the difference between 1 and 2. [09: 44] What led you to seek evaluation and diagnosis of bipolar ? [11: 16] Malaika speaks about why she sought medicine for her disorder. [13: 02] Eric says that having suicidal thoughts is the language of an illness. [16: 05] Malaika discusses how ADHD may have led to the cycle of depression. [22: 36] They talk about the medication Malaika was prescribed for her bipolar disorder. [25: 08] Malaika shares what happened that led to the ADHD diagnosis. [28: 28] ADHD Alien led her to her ADHD diagnosis. [31: 15] Malaika discusses the struggle to try to figure out who she was. [33: 51] They speak about the pandemic and what they were doing when they were shut down. [37: 43] Malaika shares the meds they have put her on for her ADHD. [39: 57] ADHD is not a skill deficit. [40: 54] Medication, if you can tolerate it is one of the best treatment plans for ADHD. [47: 07] Malaika discusses her pottery business and how it is relatable to her diagnosis. [50: 54] Most of Malaika's work has to do with geography. [52: 37] What has been the hardest thing about pivoting with bipolar, ADHD, and COVID? [54: 50] Malaika speaks about moving during all of this craziness. [57: 00] Malaika shares the interesting things that have come out of her diagnosis. [1: 01: 19] Eric talks about how great the Bose noise-canceling headphones are. [1: 02: 09] Is talking to people with masks on hard for you? [1: 03: 16] Malaika shares some final thoughts for people who might think they have bipolar disorder along with their ADHD. [1: 08: 37] Thank you so much for being on the show! Galaxy Brain - Episode 1 - Social Anxiety (AnxietyCanada.com)

Everyone struggles with social anxiety sometimes, even aliens! Drexal is no exception, which is why he reaches out to his friendly computer to talk about his fears.

Watch episode 2 of Galaxy Brain right here:
/>
-----------

Drexal is an alien living on a remote moon base, which means he has to connect with his friends and peers online—just like so many of us Earthlings are doing now!

It can be tough to connect to other people, especially when you feel anxious in social situations. Luckily, Drexal has a pretty smart computer sidekick who explains that everyone feels social anxiety sometimes and usually things turn out just fine.

You are not alone in your struggle, remember that it’s normal to feel anxiety, especially as the world around us changes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone you trust or find a friend to talk to about your feelings, like Drexal the alien does.

Share Drexal’s video series with other people you know and see if any of them feel the same way. It’s a fun way to share your feelings and maybe help your friends out as well! It’s important to talk about how you feel.

► Have you felt scared or anxious about talking to friends and classmates in person or online?
► Do you worry that you might say something embarrassing?
► Can you think of anyone else who may feel the same way you do?
► Who is someone you trust that you could talk about your feelings with?

-------

Stay tuned for more of Galaxy Brain, featuring Drexal the alien! Watch as he talks about his anxiety with his computer sidekick and they come up with ideas to help aliens (and humans) express their feelings.

Check out Time Travelling Pizza, our animated series about Chris Crust the pizza slice who travels through time to help himself with his anxiety in hilarious adventures. />

Galaxy Brain is a pre-teen and teen animated series focusing on topics such as social anxiety, health anxiety, contamination OCD and more. With humour and heart, Galaxy Brain normalizes anxiety in an entertaining way and encourages seeking help from a trusted parent, teacher or friend.

As a parent, educator or health care provider, it can be difficult to talk to pre-teens and teens about mental health, especially during the pandemic. Anxiety Canada has created the Galaxy Brain, Caretoons animated series to open the door to communication, allowing youth the understand that they aren’t alone in their feelings and that talking about their fears can be very helpful.

Many youth don’t realize that what they are feeling is anxiety, as we all face new situations daily during the pandemic and beyond. Being able to name their anxieties, recognize symptoms of anxiety, and understand the impact it has on their lives, are important steps that you can help them with.

Keep the conversation going! Let kids know that it’s ok to talk about their feelings and give them a safe space to express themselves. It can help if you also discuss your own anxieties so that they know they are not alone.

If you’re looking for answers about helping children and teens with anxiety, as well as other mental health resources, then take a look at Anxiety Canada’s helpful links below. There are useful articles for teens, parents, educators or health care providers.

Calvin Butts openly discusses his journey with ADHD. He talks about his determination to prove doctors wrong and turn his weakness into his strength. He revolves his talk around the importance of owning, adapting, and leveraging one's own lifestyle. Calvin's passions outside the office include: playing golf, spending time with his family, networking, and building relationships. He would like to touch base on the topic of "Being Your Authentic Self." He believes that you have to believe in yourself and really own who you are. Calvin grew up with ADHD and was able to go against doctors' suggestions and end up achieving so much more. Now he is a part of multiple boards, multiple businesses, multiple organizations, and has even started multiple businesses. Calvin found that if he embraced the need to be involved in several things, he could find success and find a good balance. He encourages everyone to be themselves and also understand who they are. He believes that everyone has a unique diversity to bring to an organization, school, corporation, and community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at x

We who run this channel are married to each other and are both ADHD brains - adult ones ;) We are still trying to understand what this means! This is an excellent video that summarizes this "dis-order" called ADHD.

Thomas E. Brown, PhD, discusses ADHD diagnosis, ADHD symptoms, available ADHD treatment options, and ADHD medication.

As our expert says, ADD/ADHD is not a behavior problem. It has far more to do with the brain’s management system. Remember, ADHD has nothing to do with how smart a person is.

I've finally made a video about my experiences taking Adderall for my ADHD Inattentive Type.

There is a disclaimer at the beginning of the video, please watch it.
I don't condone any use of this medication recreationally!

This is what it's like to take Adderall for my ADHD. There are some pros and cons that I think you should know about if you're considering talking to your doctor about starting treatment for ADHD.

The way I experience this medication is WAY different than some other videos you might see. When you have ADHD like I do, you don't get "high" off of medications like Adderall. This drug actually helps us feel like normal people, nothing more.
There are some side effects though that you might want to know about before talking to your doctor about Adderall specifically.

I have never felt an addiction to this medication because I take it responsibly and don't abuse it.

See what I'm up to:

http://adhdinadults.com/ Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can inhibit people from functioning at their highest potential and is often the cause or a contributing factor to problems in a patient's professional and personal life. Adult ADHD expert, Lenard Adler, joins Robert Tudisco to illustrate the benefits patients receive when diagnosed and treated for ADHD.

Tudisco sought help for ADHD shortly after his child was tested and diagnosed. Often after identifying ADHD symptoms in children, parents gain insight on their own behaviors. For that reason, Adler recommends that healthcare professions screen adults for ADHD if their child has been diagnosed. Such was the case for Tudisco, who noted that at work he was having problems with time management, paying attention to multiple things at once and completing administrative tasks.

Personal relationships can also suffer due to adult ADHD. Concerned about being a better father and husband, Tudisco sought help and became educated with information on ADHD and stories about other patients. He was prescribed a non-stimulant medication that has helped him cope with his ADHD and has since been able to overcome some of the obstacles that he was unable to manage prior to his diagnosis.

Adler is the Director of the Adult ADHD Program at NYU School of Medicine. Robert Tudisco, Esq. is the Executive Director of ADHD Coaching, Adult ADHD. For more information on Adult ADHD please visit the link above. Our Website with Free Resources

There are many strengths that go along with our ADHD symptoms. Which strengths you have and express will depend on a lot of factors, and it's not the same for everybody, but here are my 10 favorite things about having ADHD that have been true for me, I've found in my research and I see in many other ADHDers too.

Also -- to be clear I am NOT saying ADHD is not a challenge or a legitimate disorder. I am not saying we shouldn't get treatment. I am on Vyvanse myself and a big believer in multimodal treatment so that we can overcome those challenges and enjoy our strengths.
