Children and teens with Social Anxiety Disorder have an excessive fear of social and/or performance situations. They fear that others might think poorly of them or make embarrassing or humiliating mistakes. They feel constantly "on stage" which can cause a lot of self-consciousness.
- Social anxiety disorder is most common in adolescents.
It can occur suddenly following a stressful or humiliating event or gradually over time.
