How do you help a child with ADHD? In today's episode, we want to clear things up first. ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, has been overdiagnosed. If your child has a high amount of energy, it doesn't mean that they have ADHD automatically. Let's talk about how to help children with ADHD, but these tips will also work for your children who are very energetic.

00: 16 ADHD has been overdiagnosed
02: 40 Even if they're not diagnosed, this will work with children who are energetic
03: 15 Regulate their own behavior in a better way
04: 46 Have a picture list of things they need to do
06: 47 Back off
08: 10 Let the consequences do the teaching
09: 12 Let empathy be your response rather than anger
10: 22 A child diagnosed with ADHD may take much more work to teach this skill
10: 50 "I trust you to learn from your experience"

ADHD treatment is based on proven, effective stimulant and/or non-stimulant medications. Patients and their families are looking for alternatives to the standard treatment. Julia Rucklidge PhD. Research has been done on ground-breaking studies about the effects and benefits of medical grade supplements.

Do not attempt this at home. We have not determined the therapeutic doses and warn against toxic effects and over-dosing.

Black women have ADHD, too. Why black women don’t talk about ADHD.

featured image

This channel is for YOU, my Black Sisters & WOC, with ADHD. For every Black Woman willing to share her personal ADHD struggle, there are five more hiding ADHD in the shadows of shame and stigma. ADHD can make us feel inept, unqualified, and bring us down to levels of deep depression. It makes us question whether things can ever get better, rather we will ever just be “normal.” The answer is a resounding ‘YES’ you can be highly-functioning with ADHD without shame, without hiding, and without trying to make yourself “normal.” That’s what this space is for. It’s safe. I understand. Believe, I REALLY UNDERSTAND.

We need to be understood. We desire to be understood and accepted no matter how many times we lose keys, purses, forget appointments, or argue with co-workes who aren’t nearly as smart as we…they just seem to get their ideas across quicker while we’re figuring out how to collect our thoughts and ideas.
For those reasons and a thousand more, ADHD is the new BLACK is an important use of YouTube. Help other black women and WOC with ADHD find this channel by “liking” and “subscribing” This is one way we can lift up each other.

My article share: if you experience hypersensitivity to light, sound, certain fabrics, there’s a reason for that. See the article below.

------

We are told that ADHD sufferers are scattered, forgetful, and inattentive. They interrupt others, are more likely be fired, can't finish work on time and cannot stop talking. Ever.

People with ADHD are said to struggle to function in the real world because of these symptoms. If we accept that story, then why is there so much ADHD people who can not only function but thrive?

My symptoms were an additional obstacle. I resolved to change my mind one day. I wanted to understand why ADHD was being viewed and described in the way it was. These were the views I had internalized from early 90s. Two studies in 2018, showed ADHD in a completely different light.

Cognitive dynamism is a way to have so many thoughts going through your head that it becomes overwhelming. Hyper-focus is a synonym for inattentiveness. It's the ability to be so focused on one task that you lose touch with the world around. We now refer to divergent thinking as being able to generate creative ideas through exploring multiple possible solutions.

Let's have a discussion about ADHD's positive and impactful side. This is the side that makes us better at work and in our communities. Even if you don't have ADHD you will be asked to openly discuss your preconceived notions about mental illness and the people you talk to. Let's work together to change the story for ADHD patients.

Disorganization causes a lot of frustration and wasted time looking for things. And it can frustrate the people around you. Here are 3 steps to keep up with your stuff - Place, Retrieve and Return.
See my ADHD Skills playlist for more: />
The starting point for organization is making a place for everything. Even small things have a designated place. This can be a drawer for your pens, a container for your mail and a hook for your keys.

When you have organizational problems, the tendency is to want to keep things within reach. So you may have a lot of clutter lying about, but you feel you need it to look like that so you can keep up with things. Well when you are assigning your places, you do want to have the things you use most often in the most convenient place or within easy view. But the placement of things needs to be a little more intentional.

Once you decide where things should go, you have to commit to putting them back in their place right after you use them. So when you need something, you go retrieve it from it’s place, then you immediately return it when you’re done.

Want to know more about mental health and self-improvement? ADHD is also a problem for black women. Why do black women not talk about ADHD?

featured image

This channel is for YOU, my Black Sisters & WOC, with ADHD. Five more Black women with ADHD are hiding in shame and stigma, each willing to share their own struggles. ADHD can make you feel unqualified and inept. It can also lead to deep depression. This makes us wonder if things will ever improve or if we will ever be “normal.” It is clear that ADHD can be managed without shame or hiding. This is why this space exists. It’s safe. I understand. Believe me, I REALLY UNDERSTAND.

Understanding is essential. No matter how many times we forget to pick up our keys or lose our purses, we want to be understood.
ADHD is the new BLACK. These are just a few reasons why YouTube is important. You can help other ADHD women and WOC by “liking” this channel and “subscribing”. This is one way that we can support each other.

My article sharing: If you have hypersensitivity to light, sound or certain fabrics, it’s likely that there is a reason. Check out the article.
