ADHD Aha! | ADHD, irritability, and friendship (Jake's story)

featured image

Jake Lambert watched his mother thrive once she was diagnosed with ADHD and getting ADHD treatment. That pushed him to look for answers about his own struggles to pay attention. He wondered why he was so irritable, why he had trouble managing emotions, and why he struggled to keep friends. He figured they were just “bad” traits of his — but in reality, it was ADHD.

Growing up, Jake did well enough in school that no one caught his ADHD symptoms. He’d have to re-read a page three times because he’d get distracted. And he constantly procrastinated on homework assignments. Jake and host Laura Key also talk about how ADHD can make you feel “crackly,” and coping strategies that help them.

ADHD and Friendships: How To Play the Social Game

featured image

The way ADHD brains develop can put us out of step with our childhood peers, leaving us feeling awkward, left out and with social anxiety that can follow us into adulthood. This article will discuss my personal experiences and provide simple solutions.

note — One of the Brains mentioned that peers and the Internet aren’t always the most reliable sources of information. This is true. Cultural differences exist and biases such as racism and sexism can be present. Also, the best advice might not work for everyone.

I hope that we can sort through all of the information and then decide if it is right for us.

In any event, if I had known what to expect at a sleepover, what it takes to be a good host, or what the appropriate manner is for first dates, I would have been a lot better prepared to handle the situations that I was in.

This is all for fun. One of the brains pointed to reddit’s “outside” forum, which treats the outside world as if it were a game. It’s AMAZING: Q

Lyrics:
Tension high. No sleep.
I can't seem to get a break from my anxiety.

These feelings are never ending and can't seem burn it down.
It's like pinching needles. I feel heavy. I could drown.
This is so much for me. I cannot break the cycle that I can't ignore.

Embarrassing how I feel today ,
It is time for a major change.
It's okay to say it!
Hate that you are this way.
Try another bar. Get rid of anxiety.

I can't breathe, and I want to scream. But the words won't come outta my mouth.
I can't explain. I don't know why I complain.
For the tension in my stomach, I swallow a bar. I lose my memory.

Prescriptions make me feel like I'm dying.
Why do I feel confused?

You don't understand how I feel. You can't make fun of me.
War zone. Everyday. My head. Feel like you're dead, live in a daze.

Tension high. No sleep.
I can't seem to get a break from my anxiety.
One day I'm gonna fucking snap.
Do you think the world will remember me?
