This video teaches teens how fright is a out of the ordinary biological response – referred to as “Fight, Flight, Freeze” – that will win caused inappropriately in the as a lot as date world.
Alarm Canada created this video with toughen from BC Partners for Psychological Health and Addictions Data.
Alarm triggers something referred to as the “wrestle-flight-freeze” response (F3). This computerized response affects our recommendations, physique, and behaviors. When faced with a doable threat, your recommendations focal level on the threat, your physique revs as a lot as wait on protect you, and also you favor motion (wrestle, flight, or freeze). As an instance, believe that you’re out strolling your canines and a skunk pops out of the bushes. You hang recommendations referring to the skunk equivalent to “What if it sprays us?” which helps you set the doable threat. Your physique also reacts (coronary heart beats faster, muscle demanding up) to enable you win ready to present protection to yourself. And, you favor motion, equivalent to final very peaceful and hoping the skunk doesn’t gaze you (freeze) or operating away (flight). As you will be ready to leer, fright protects you. If truth be told, with out it, we’d be extinct!
The F3 machine is very basic to our survival from merely threat or threat, but what occurs when there is rarely a genuine threat? Interestingly, fright may possibly also trigger this methodology into motion after we believe there is a threat or threat although there isn’t. As an instance, you'd also merely yowl at your mum for bugging you about taking your riding test if you happen to don’t genuinely feel ready (wrestle). Otherwise you'd also merely call your dad to steal you up early from a brand fresh activity because you don’t genuinely feel happy around out of the ordinary people (flight). Or, you'd also merely genuinely feel as if your recommendations goes blank when the teacher asks you a ask (freeze). These are examples of fright triggering the F3 scare although these instances are now no longer genuinely harmful. We call this a “flawed scare.”
The BC Partners are a group of seven leading provincial psychological health and addictions non-profit agencies: Alarm Canada, BC Schizophrenia Society, Centre for Addictions Research of BC, Canadian Psychological Health Affiliation's BC Division, FORCE Society for Young people' Psychological Health, Household Products and companies of the North Shore's Jessie's Legacy Program and Temper Concerns Affiliation of BC.

This episode serves as a sort of “Dopamine Masterclass”. I discuss the immensely powerful chemical that we all make in our brain and body: dopamine. I describe what it does and the neural circuits involved. I explain dopamine peaks and baselines, and the cell biology of dopamine depletion. I include 14 tools for how to control your dopamine release for sake of motivation, focus, avoiding and combating addiction and depression, and I explain why dopamine stacking with chemicals and behaviors inevitably leads to states of underwhelm and poor performance. I explain how to achieve sustained increases in baseline dopamine, compounds that injure and protect dopamine neurons including caffeine from specific sources. I describe non-prescription supplements for increasing dopamine—both their benefits and risks—and synergy of pro-dopamine supplements with those that increase acetylcholine.

ADHD in children can be a difficult thing to manage, but medications and drugs are not the answer. Discover Drake Institute's drug-free treatment options for children at t
The Drake Institute has been a worldwide leader in the non drug treatment of children and adults since 1980. David F. Velkoff, M.D., our Medical Director and co-founder, supervises all evaluation procedures and treatment programs. Dr. Velkoff earned his Masters degree in Psychology from the California State University at Los Angeles in 1975, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta in 1976. Dr. Velkoff completed his postgraduate work on Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California Medical Center at Irvine. He then shifted his specialty to Behavioral Medicine and underwent training at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas to learn biofeedback technology. In 1980, he co-founded the Drake Institute of Behavioral Medicine.
Seeking to better understand the link between illness and the mind, Dr. Velkoff served as the clinical director of an international research study on psychoneuroimmunology with the UCLA Medical School Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
Dr. Velkoff was a founding associate editor of the scientific publication, Journal of Neurotherapy.
Drake Institute Reviews
Just wanted to update our situation. After contacting Dr. Velkoff and meeting with him he is genuine in getting his patient the help that they need. He is providing additional treatment and assessment at no additional cost. I guess what has happened our PC did not coordinate our concerns with the Doctor in a timely matter. We are please for the efforts and Dr. V being genuine He even gave his personal cell phone to reach him directly if we don't hear back from our PC. Overall we are happy that our child is getting the proper care now. There must be a reason why his clinic is super busy all the time.

I have a friend that has had her son being treated by this facility and wow can I see a difference! He used to "show off" all the time, always getting into something when she wasn't looking and throwing temper tantrums. She absolutely did not want to put him on any drugs. After just a couple weeks of starting treatments he started improving, not all at once, but you could see him thinking through his actions a little more and generally just starting to calm down and communicate better. TO see him behave now versus how he acted before neurofeedback treatments is like day compared to night. The more I learn about Neurofeedback the less I want to see kids with ADD and ADHD on drugs - What great results I have seen from this facility!
