Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is denoted by impulsivity, inattention, and hyperactivity. Although ADHD is perceived to be most commonly diagnosed in boys during childhood, there are many stereotypes that are attached to this disorder that make it difficult for girls and women to be diagnosed with ADHD. This video highlights common misconceptions of ADHD that leave women largely undiagnosed and the potential implications of these misconceptions.

This video was made by McMaster students Steffi Arkilander, Vivian Bai, and Ava George in collaboration with the McMaster Demystifying Medicine Program.

It is estimated that 2-16% of children worldwide, and close to 5% of adults, experience behavioral difficulties classified as ADD/ADHD; in some school systems in North America, as many as 1 in 6 students are medicated for these diagnoses. Often closely intertwined with the inattention and distractibility these folks experience, are collections of symptoms often classified as Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, tic syndromes including Tourette’s, tantrums, and conduct disorders. Some receive meaningful benefit from conventional treatments; many do not. This course will examine the common symptomatic expressions of ADD/ADHD, translate these into the language of our homeopathic Repertory, and engage in a differential study of frequently-indicated remedies. It will closely examine a case or two each session, with attention to case taking approaches, case analysis strategies, and discussion of the indicated remedies. This course is intended for homeopaths and students of homeopathy. We recommend that you work with a professional homeopath for best results. For this course, Will taps years of personal experience: in clinic working with lots of wiggly, distractible ADD/ADHD kids (and adults!), as a parent of 2 intensely tubercular children (now happy/healthy adults) and his own childhood experience of leaving school daily at 11am.

http://www.dailyrx.com/adhd-stimulant-treatments-did-not-affect-adult-height-recent-study?autoplay=399913301

Kids love to talk about when they grow up, but for years, parents of children with ADHD were concerned their children's medication would stunt their growth. New research shows they have nothing to worry about. I'm Miranda Savioli with your latest health news.

ADHD is often treated with stimulants to improve focus and attention span. Comparing the adult heights of children treated for ADHD to children without it, researches were able to conclude neither stimulants nor ADHD were associated with a patient's adult height. Although, male patients treated with stimulants did experience their growth spurts about three months later than those not treated.

Talk to your pediatrician if you're concerned about your child's growth.
