Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common condition. Genes may play a role. Stress may also contribute to the development of GAD.
Anyone can develop this disorder, even kids. Most people with the disorder report that they have been anxious for as long as they can remember. GAD occurs somewhat more often in women than in men.
Methylphenidate is also known as the brand names: Concerta, Daytrana, Metadate, Ritalin, and Quillivant. Methylphenidate comes in a tablet, capsule, transdermal patch, and oral suspension dosage form. Methylphenidate is most commonly used for attention deficit problems with hyperactivity (ADHD). It could also be prescribed for other reasons, talk with your doctor or pharmacist. If methylphenidate is taken throughout the day. take the last dose by 3pm to avoid issues falling asleep. Standard dosing of methylphenidate ranges from 5mg to 60mg daily. Some side effects with methylphenidate include dizziness, headache, upset stomach, feeling nervous and excitable, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Do not take methylphenidate if: • You currently take or have taken an MAO inhibitor medication within the past 14 days • You have marked anxiety, tension, and agitation • You have glaucoma • You have a family history or diagnosis of Tourette syndromes or tics When taking methylphenidate, remember it is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you: • Have a heartbeat that does not feel normal • Have a very bad headache, upset stomach, or are throwing up • Have blurred vision • Start taking new medications, vitamins or supplements.
If you miss a dose of methylphenidate: • Use a missed dose as soon as you think about it. Do not take this drug after 6 PM. • If it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. • Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
The best way to store methylphenidate: • Store at room temperature • Protect from light • Store in a dry place. Do not store in a bathroom or refrigerator. • Keep all drugs in a safe place. Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets. • Check with your pharmacist about how to throw out unused drugs.
If you never exercised and just walking up a few stairs made your heart race and sweat pour down your back and left you gasping for breath, how would you change that? Stimulants are an effective way of managing ADHD symptoms, such as short attention span, impulsive behavior, and hyperactivity. These drugs improve ADHD symptoms in about 70% of adults and 70–80% of children. They tend to reduce interruptive behavior, fidgeting, and other hyperactive symptoms.

Often Dr. Fruitman is asked" How do you know what medication to choose?" Here is some insight to the thought process behind choosing the right medication for you!
Both Ritalin and Adderall belong in the same stimulant category. Once key factor in choosing is the patient's preference and attitude toward each drug. If a patient doesn't take their medicine, it won't work!
It is also important to know the patient's previous history with each of the drugs. Typically, Dr. Fruitman says, it is best to start on a low dose in an extended release form, and Adderall may be best for motivation purposes, while Ritalin may be a better choice for over-stimulation.
Both of these drugs have proven effective in treating ADD/ADHD. The most important thing to consider while deciding a course of treatment is finding the right dosage.

Dr Sanil Rege discusses the diagnosis and management of Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD).
GAD is characterized by persistent feelings of fear and worries about everyday things that are difficult to control. GAD is on average only diagnosed 10 years after onset at which point the patient has gone to the doctors due to comorbid issues such as panic disorder, depression, or chronic pain disorders. Therefore, all patients that are diagnosed with anxiety should be screened for depression as well.
The initial assessment should address behaviour and somatic symptoms; the evaluation of psychosocial stress and developmental issues in the context of past medical history can be used to exclude other organic causes.
As with all disorders across the anxiety spectrum, a pragmatic approach that includes psychoeducation and information on lifestyle factors (e.g. healthy lifestyle choices concerning diet, exercise, and sleep) is encouraged.
SSRIs (e.g. sertraline, paroxetine, and escitalopram) and SNRIs (e.g. venlafaxine and duloxetine) are supported by RCT data to reduce symptoms and remission rates, respectively.
Clinicians should be aware of the myriad of comorbid disorders that often present with GAD. Evidence suggests psychoeducation and lifestyle changes as well as CBT as the most effective forms of therapy. SSRIs /SNRIs are effective medications that can be considered first-line or if CBT is ineffective.

Methylphenidate is available in capsules, tablets, transdermal patches, oral suspension dosage forms, and capsules. Robert Tudisco is joined by Lenard Adler, an expert in adult ADHD, to show the benefits that patients get when they are diagnosed and treated.
After his child was diagnosed with ADHD, Tudisco sought treatment. Parents often gain insight into their own behavior after diagnosing ADHD symptoms in their children. Adler suggests that adults with ADHD be screened by healthcare professionals if the child has been diagnosed. Tudisco was one of those people. He said that he struggled with time management, multitasking, and was having difficulty completing administrative tasks.
Adult ADHD can also affect personal relationships. Tudisco was concerned about his ability to be a better husband and father, so he sought help. He also learned about ADHD and heard stories from other patients. Tudisco was given a non-stimulant drug that helped him manage ADHD. He has been able to overcome many of the difficulties he faced before his diagnosis.
