How is ADHD diagnosed and treated in children?

featured image

A paediatrician at Mediclinic explains how they diagnose children of school-going age with ADHD by first excluding all other possible causes of ADHD symptoms. She will explain when medication should be considered and which other treatment options are available.

http://medbusiness.net/how-is-adhd-diagnosed-and-treated-in-children/

In this episode, I host Dr. Samer Hattar, Chief of the Section on Light and Circadian Rhythms at the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Hattar, a world-renowned expert, discusses how light viewing at certain times can affect our mood, ability learn, stress levels, hormone levels, appetite and mental health. How to use your personal light sensitivity to find the best sleep-wake rhythm for you. In order to optimize mental and physical function, we also discuss how to use your light viewing and waking times to coordinate with your food intake and exercise. Dr. Hattar is responsible for discovering the neurons within the eye that regulate mood and appetite and set our circadian clocks. Because our cells and circadian clocks are interconnected across many days, even a small shift in daylight savings can have huge effects on biking. He also provides specific tools that can be used to quickly adjust to shift work and jetlag. This episode contains cutting-edge information on human physiology as well as practical tools that can be used by people of all ages.

Black women have ADHD, too. Why black women don’t talk about ADHD.

featured image

This channel is for YOU, my Black Sisters & WOC, with ADHD. For every Black Woman willing to share her personal ADHD struggle, there are five more hiding ADHD in the shadows of shame and stigma. ADHD can make us feel inept, unqualified, and bring us down to levels of deep depression. It makes us question whether things can ever get better, rather we will ever just be “normal.” The answer is a resounding ‘YES’ you can be highly-functioning with ADHD without shame, without hiding, and without trying to make yourself “normal.” That’s what this space is for. It’s safe. I understand. Believe, I REALLY UNDERSTAND.

We need to be understood. We desire to be understood and accepted no matter how many times we lose keys, purses, forget appointments, or argue with co-workes who aren’t nearly as smart as we…they just seem to get their ideas across quicker while we’re figuring out how to collect our thoughts and ideas.
For those reasons and a thousand more, ADHD is the new BLACK is an important use of YouTube. Help other black women and WOC with ADHD find this channel by “liking” and “subscribing” This is one way we can lift up each other.

My article share: if you experience hypersensitivity to light, sound, certain fabrics, there’s a reason for that. See the article below.

See this article in ADDitude magazine about why your clothing tags drive you nuts!

The Most Common Symptom of ADHD

Unexplained underachievement is the most telling symptom that someone may have ADHD.

It’s a great thing, because ADHD is the answer, and underachievement becomes overachievement.

Where is my Money going?/ADHD Broke/Starbucks Broke/budgeting/finances/disorganized/money stress.

featured image

There’s “rich people broke” “white broke” “black broke” and “adhd broke”
ADHD is a chronic medical condition that touches every part of a person’s life, from relationships to job security to financial health.
Research finds that people with ADHD are far more likely to go into debt, make more impulse purchases, live pay check to pay check,, engage in risky financial behaviour (ex. high-interest loans), show great difficulty in planning for the future. Why? The pre-frontal cortex of our brains-the area that controls impulses and inappropriate actions in people who don’t have ADHD, isn’t strong enough in our ADHD brains without intervention or treatment.

Difficulty managing my finances is the deepest hidden shame of my whole adult life. Nobody wants a take care of a grown-ass woman every time she’s B-R-O-K-E. Especially not one with more than two jobs. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR MONEY?” Said every adult in my life.
And here’s the painful part: I read the budgeting for dummies books, TWICE. I watched the suzy orman videos, asked Iyanla to fix my life (she never returned my call).
This VLOG is meant to show you…that I am still on the journey of fixing my own life and having knowledge of my ADHD has been a giant. first. step. It’s still frustrating because it’s not a quick fix when emotions and self-limiting beliefs about money are still being worked through. But, I’m better today than I was one year ago…and each tip, budget tool and resource I learn can now be viewed through the prism of my ADHD and adjusted accordingly.

Most families are never provided with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) ADHD treatment recommendations, because most health care and mental health providers do not know the recommendations.

As a result, families are referred to ineffective treatments like individual "talk therapy"/counseling for kids, despite the fact there is no evidence indicating that individual talk therapy is helpful in treating ADHD-related challenges.

In this video I explain the AAP treatment recommendations for ADHD. ADHD Dude provides Parent Behavior Training (a recommended treatment) through the ADHD Dude Membership Site. The Parent Behavior Training program is the first designed specifically for parents of kids with ADHD and is called 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 & 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲: www.adhddudecourses.com

Where is my Money going?/ADHD Broke/Starbucks Broke/budgeting/finances/disorganized/money stress.

featured image

There’s “rich people broke” “white broke” “black broke” and “adhd broke”
ADHD is a chronic medical condition that affects every aspect of a person’s life from finances to relationships to job security to financial well-being.
ADHD people are more likely to get into debt, to make impulse purchases, to live paycheck to paycheck, and to engage in risky financial behavior (ex. High-interest loans can cause great difficulty planning for the future. Why? Why?

My greatest shame is my inability to manage my finances. Nobody wants to take care of a mature-ass woman all the time. Not one who has more than one job. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR MONEY?” Every adult in my life has said it.
Here’s the hard part: I read TWICE the Budgeting for Dummies books. I watched the Suzy Orman videos and asked Iyanla for help. She never returned my call.
This VLOG is intended to show you…that I am still trying to fix my life. Having knowledge about my ADHD has been huge. first. step. It is still frustrating, because it doesn’t provide a quick fix for emotions and self-limiting beliefs regarding money. However, I am better than I was a year ago. Every tip, budget tool, and resource that I learn can now be seen through the lens of ADHD and adjusted accordingly.

ADHD is also a problem for black women. Why do black women not talk about ADHD?

featured image

This channel is for YOU, my Black Sisters & WOC, with ADHD. Five more Black women with ADHD are hiding in shame and stigma, each willing to share their own struggles. ADHD can make you feel unqualified and inept. It can also lead to deep depression. This makes us wonder if things will ever improve or if we will ever be “normal.” It is clear that ADHD can be managed without shame or hiding. This is why this space exists. It’s safe. I understand. Believe me, I REALLY UNDERSTAND.

Understanding is essential. No matter how many times we forget to pick up our keys or lose our purses, we want to be understood.
ADHD is the new BLACK. These are just a few reasons why YouTube is important. You can help other ADHD women and WOC by “liking” this channel and “subscribing”. This is one way that we can support each other.

My article sharing: If you have hypersensitivity to light, sound or certain fabrics, it’s likely that there is a reason. Check out the article.

This article from ADDitude magazine explains why you are so mad about your clothing tags.
