Here is The ADHD Test! A lot of the time I get similar questions from you guys wondering what ADHD symptoms are and wondering if you have ADHD. While i'm no doctor, I decided I would put together a quiz that will help you in defining whether or not you should go to see a doctor about ADHD!
This test is not a definitive diagnosis and shouldn't be taken as one but these are genuine symptoms of ADHD and will help you in figuring out if you should go to have a real diagnosis from a doctor.

Dr. Scott explains that EKG's are not needed for children who are starting to use ADHD medication.
William A. Scott, MD FHRS FACC FAAP: EKGs are not necessary for children who are about to begin medication for ADHD. Concern arose in the past related to voluntary reporting of incidents in children who had unrecognized heart disease.
In general, most children can take these medications quite safely without any concern. If the family has a prior history of congenital heart disease, a premature heart disease, or a significant arrhythmias, or the child themselves has a history of heart disease, an evaluation is indicated prior to beginning these medications.
There has been great debate about the need for the screening tests in children. Consequently large organizations such as American College of Cardiology and the American Academy of Pediatrics have come out with consensus recommendations where experts, physicians reviewed all the available data and determined that the EKG was not indicated for most patients beginning these medications.
“Experts” claim this relatively new “disease” affects up to 5% of adults and almost 2% of children or almost 3 million Americans. It’s defined as eating too much, too fast and suffering embarrassment afterward. Shire Pharmaceuticals, the company behind popularizing the concept of B.E.D., seeks to stimulate sales of its drug Vyvanse as the sole F.D.A. authorized drug to treat this condition. Unfortunately this pro-drug morphs into amphetamine with all of its associated toxicities. Whether Vyvanse which is also promoted for ADHD represents an advance remains debatable.
How Does rTMS Work?
rTMS is a medical grade magnet that is used to balance the speed of abnormal operating nerves in the brain. The magnet sends a signal that can be varied to stimulate or slow down the nerves in the specific regions. For example:
rTMS FOR DEPRESSION: The normal pattern that scientists expect brains to work at is 15 – 20 pulses per second (pps) on the left front portion of the brain, also called the frontal lobe. Patients whose brains run below 15pps have symptoms that typically include depression.
rTMS FOR ANXIETY: Normally, the left side of the brain works at a higher frequency than the right side. When this pattern reverses, and the right brain works at a higher frequency, the individual often exhibits symptoms that doctors call anxiety. This right brain dominance may be due to the right brain working too fast, or the left brain not working fast enough, or both.
rTMS FOR OTHER CONDITIONS: We can also use rTMS to improve abnormal frequencies in the brain; either stimulating or quieting it, to treat a wide variety of conditions.

Tired of making then breaking New Year's Resolutions? Do you even bother making resolutions, knowing you never keep them? Setting yourself up for disappointment? Yeah, me too. But I've found one way to set a goal that is harder to forget and easier to keep.
Discussion of Binge Eating Disorder and the medication Vyvanse, used in the treatment of BED. Jacquelyn Ekern, MS, LPC, President & Founder of Eating Disorder Hope addresses the recent Journal Sentinel article on this topic.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recently updated its guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. Here, Tim Verduin, PhD, Clinical Director of the Institute for ADHD and Behavior Disorders at the NYU Langone Child Study Center, talks about why the guidelines recommend starting treatment with behavior therapy for younger children. He also discusses why at any age, the AAP ideally recommends a combination of behavior therapy and medication used in concert.

Although prescription stimulants are often highly effective in reducing ADHD symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults, problems of non-medical misuse and abuse of prescription stimulants among adolescents, college students, and adults have become evident in recent years. Students who are unable to do a lot of work want to reap the benefits of stimulant medication. Friends, acquaintances, and even strangers may ask students with prescriptions to sell their medication. Other students might steal medication from an ADHD student. This webinar will provide information for parents, college students, and professionals on how to prevent misuse, abuse and diversion.
