What is ADHD?
It stands for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The DSM-5 specifies that people with ADHD experience inattention and/or hyperactivity, which interferes with their functioning and/or development.

- In order to be diagnosed with ADHD 5 or more of the following symptoms of inattention need to have been present for at least 6 months:
Someone with ADHD often fails to pay attention to details, makes careless mistakes, has trouble holding attention, does not seem to listen, does not follow instructions through, has trouble organizing, dislikes or avoids tasks that require mental effort, often loses things, is easily distracted and is forgetful.
- And/or in order to be diagnosed with ADHD 5 or more of the following symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity should have been present for the last 6 months.
Someone with ADHD often fidgets or taps with his/hers hands or feet, leaves the seat in situations when it is expected to remain seated, runs or climbs in situations where this is inappropriate, can’t play quietly, talks excessively, blurts out an answer before a question has been completed, has trouble waiting on his/hers turn and interrupts or intrudes on others.

In addition to be diagnosed with ADHD some of the previously mentioned symptoms must have been present before the age of 12, the symptoms must be present in two or more settings,, the symptoms must clearly interfere with someone's social, school or work functioning and the symptoms can only be explained by ADHD and not by another mental disorder.

How is ADHD caused?:
Genetics are thought to determine about 75% of all cases, but the following environmental factors could also increase someones risk: alcohol intake during pregnancy, smoking during pregnancy, a premature birth, a low birthweight, extreme neglect, abuse, or social deprivation.

How common is ADHD?
New studies indicate that the percentage of the population with ADHD depends per community and country, but the global prevalence is between 2-7%. With an average of around 5%.

Treatment plan:
- Visit your doctor for a medical examination.
- Take good care for yourself. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night, maintain a structured sleeping schedule, eat enough vegetables and vitamines, drink about 2L of water each day and try to exercise regularly.
- Try these tips: create structure, break tasks into manageable pieces, limit distractions, exercise regularly, try out-loud thinking, try to pause a moment before talking or replying, take breaks and try to stay calm.
- Medication: it may help to reduce someone symptoms, increase concentrations and may improve someone functioning in sociale, school and/or work situations. Commonly prescribed medicine for ADHD are: methylphenidate, lisdexamfetamine, dexamfetamine, atomoxetine and guanfacine.
- Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy. This can be followed individually or in a group-setting. In psychotherapy the underlying psychological problems and the symptoms are address, with the aim to overcome these and replace these with healthier behavior. Psychotherapy usually lasts 6 weeks up to several months.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aims to help you manage problems by changing how you think and act. It uses a range of psychological techniques to help you come to terms with your symptoms.
- Psycho-education, parent training and education programmes could also help.

http://adhdinadults.com/ Learn how healthcare professionals can better educate their patients about Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and how to facilitate the conversations surrounding ADHD from Anthony Rostain MD/MA, the Medical Director for the Penn Medicine Adult ADHD Program. Rostain offers doctors and/or PCPs guidance on how to educate patients about adult ADHD and set them up for successful treatment.

When discussing ADHD for the first time with a patient, the doctor should help the patient identify some of their strengths as well as their weaknesses as they relate to ADHD. Highlighting positive characteristics helps give patient hope and reminds the patient there is support available for managing their disorder. Encouraging patients to learn about changes in their home environment and providing other strategies for patients to cope with ADHD is also encouraged.

Doctors should discuss expectations regarding treatment options early. In order to effectively do so, physicians should be aware of the prescription options available for treating patients (stimulants and non-stimulants). Healthcare professionals should also know about local cognitive therapy resources that are available to help patients manage their ADHD.

One kind of barrier that patients may have is overcoming behavioral problems, such as procrastination. Another barrier is a lack of confidence, due to the interference ADHD has had over the course of the patient's life. These barriers can result in compensatory strategies that can interfere with coping strategies. Cognitive therapy can help patients reduce symptoms and improve functioning without medication and knowing its advantages is important to counseling patients.

ADHD Strategies For Staying On Track 📈

How to get a Diagnosis ➡️

Please note I am not a medical professional.

My advice comes from first-hand experience as an ADHD person myself. Using visual progression tracking and goal prioritisation methods, you can develop a useful strategy to override your weaknesses as a person with ADHD.

Step 1: Get to know yourself (How do you normally get things done?)
Step 2: Be Kind to yourself (Be realistic and stop pushing yourself so hard)
Step 3: Break down End-Goals into small, easier achievements to avoid overwhelm
Step 4: Compare your current position to your past position: Where are you now?

Does the medication still work for me?
How do I deal with the nausea?
Do I take it every day?
Do I recommend concerta?
Concerta side effects for me now?
How do you get tested for ADHD?
-there are some online evaluations
-but if you would like to gain the benefits of a diagnosis go to a professional. You can visit your local behavior health practice and see a psychiatrist.
How have I been coping with ADHD?
Do I recommend taking medication?
How do I deal with feelings of inadequacy due to my ADHD and learning disability/ dealing with depression?
Getting my diagnosis as an adult and being in the workforce.
Personality changes.
Somethings I found to be helpful with taking my medication.

This video will answer one of the most common and basic questions regarding anxiety and panic disorders. It's titled "exactly what's anxiety?"

Anxiety can be a psychological or physiological state that can affect your cognitive processes. Anxiety is simply a feeling of worry or fear that causes a person to feel anxious and stressed out. This can make a date unpleasant and even uncomfortable.

Although stress is normal in response to stressful situations, anxiety that becomes paranoid and uncontrollable is considered an anxiety disorder.

As an ADHD person, I know firsthand what it is like to give advice. You can use visual progression tracking and goal prioritisation to develop a strategy that will help you overcome your ADHD weaknesses.

Step 1: Get to Know You (How do YOU normally accomplish things? )
Step 2: Be kind to yourself (Be realistic, and stop pushing yourself )
).Step 3: Reduce End-Goals into smaller, more manageable achievements to avoid overwhelming
Step 4: Compare your current situation to your previous position: Where are your strengths and weaknesses?

The past few years have been tumultuous, worrying, and depressing. My normally positive mood has been affected by events both personal and professional. Although I have felt down at times, I know that it is not a sign of Clinical Depression.

Have been there. This has been done. You've done it more than once. It's not fun.

You may wonder what the signs are for full-blown depression if you have had a difficult few years. These 10 signs that it's not depression are here to keep you positive. Vote for Pedro )

Am I depressed?
Many patrons have inquired about the differences between natural sadness (or full-blown depression) and their symptoms.

Depression is classified as a mood disorder, which means that you have been diagnosed with depression by a doctor. You may be suffering to the point that you feel helpless.

Depression can develop slowly enough that you don't notice it. Although I was not a doctor, I did portray a nurse in a Frantics comedy skit. My bedside manner was okay.

At times in my life, I've felt sad or depressed. There are many reasons. Usually.

I've been diagnosed with clinical depression a few times, so I have first-hand or first-hand knowledge.

To make sure I am not talking through my head, I have stopped wearing hats. I also consulted a list that contains depression symptoms that I trusted.

Symptoms of Depression
These are all signs of depression.
Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Fatigue
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and helplessness Pessimism
and hopelessness Insomnia, wakefulness in the morning, or excessive sleep Crankiness
Restlessness
The loss of interest in once pleasurable things, such as sex
. Overeating, or appetite loss

Cramps that don't disappear Even with treatment
, digestive problems don't improve. Persistent sadness, anxiety, or "empty” feelings Suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts
*Source WebMD

I found that the lists of depression symptoms were fairly consistent. They don't differ much from one site to another. These lists are flat and abstract to me. When you're depressed, you don't think or feel things in a balanced way.

2020 This Netflix series about an orphan who turns into a chess prodigy has received 60 millions views in one month. That's half of the world's population... but it's still impressive.

It was incredible. I won't spoil it, but the scene on Mars was spectacular. Who knew Khloe Kardashian could act? You can substitute another program if you miss it. It's possible you'll be watching it later so it might be Sharknado 5: The dust devil's revenge, or Napoleon Dynamite 2. Sorry.

Depression is a condition that affects only a small percentage of people. It can also happen in short periods. Although I have been happy most of my life, I am now a bit anxious, scattered, and worried. But it isn't permanent.

These 10 signs will tell you that you aren't depressed, since most people aren't depressed all the time.

People with ADHD can find planning difficult. It can even be depressing, because it seems impossible to accomplish all the tasks in your planner.
