*CORRECTION NOTICEAt 1: 15 I noted that in 1960 it was reported a racemic mixture of amphetamine could be used to control ADHD symptoms. However, I stated that it was approved by FDA for treatment of ADHD in 1996.. The treatment of ADHD in 1996. was approved by the FDA. However, it was approved in a 3:1 ratio between the d- and l-isomers (as I explain at 3 15 in this video), and not the racemic mixture in the 1960 research.

How do you help a child with ADHD? Today's episode will focus on the basics. ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) has been widely misdiagnosed. ADHD is not automatically diagnosed if your child has high energy levels. These tips can be used to help ADHD children, but they will also work well for children who are extremely energetic.

00: 16 ADHD has been overdiagnosed
02: 40 Even if they're not diagnosed, this will work with children who are energetic
03: 15 Regulate their own behavior in a better way
04: 46 Have a picture list of things they need to do
06: 47 Back off
08: 10 Let the consequences do the teaching
09: 12 Let empathy be your response rather than anger
10: 22 A child diagnosed with ADHD may take much more work to teach this skill
10: 50 "I trust you to learn from your experience"

Not wrong, just different: ADHD as innovators | Rebecca Hession | TEDxFortWayne

SPEAKER:

For over 10years, FranklinCovey has been a consultant, organizational development expert and sales Guru. Rebecca has had the opportunity to learn about effectiveness from every angle throughout her career. Her real expertise in this topic comes from living with and loving ADHD Husband and Son for more than 141,322 hours of her life. She loves public speaking and being able to speak on a topic that she is passionate about. All is well in the world if you give her a stage with a flip-chart.

TOPIC:
Not Wrong, Just Different [ADHD our Innovationators ]
]
Today, more than 18million people are diagnosed with ADHD. They struggle with double the average divorce rate, higher addiction rates, and increased crime rates. They are in trouble. They also have some of the most creative and innovative minds. It’s a loss of creativity in a linear society. What if they were seen differently? What if our paradigms were changed to not wrong but different? Only then can we truly tap into the potential of these relationships. We can then look for educational opportunities and allow them to solve our greatest problems. We must first see them differently. It’s not wrong, just different.

What is TEDx?

TEDx is a program that promotes ideas worth spreading. TEDx is a series of self-organized, local events that bring people together for a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxFortWayne. X stands for independently-organized TED events. Our TEDxFortWayne event will feature TEDTalks video and live speakers to encourage deep discussion and connection among small groups. Although the TED Conference offers general guidance, individual TEDx events (including ours) can be self-organized.

This independent TEDx event was created under license by TED.

http://adhdinadults.com 100 years after the first known case of childhood attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder was published, adult ADHD still goes largely untreated and undiagnosed. It is estimated that 10 million adults suffer from undiagnosed ADHD.

The symptoms of ADHD (hyperactivity, difficulty concentrating or focusing on tasks) manifest differently in adults than they do in children and aduts tend to compensate for deficiencies by working harder, so it wasn't until recently that psychiatrists and doctors began treating ADHD in adults. The validity of Adult ADHD was frequently challenged and many people who suffered from attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder as children were believed to be cured in adulthood. Because of this belief, also known as the theory of Developmental Delay, doctors and insurance companies did not approve drugs for ADHD children once they reached adulthood. However, thanks to genetic, epidemiological and treatment studies, ADHD in adults is now recognized by the American Medical Association and American Psychiatric Association.

SUNY Upstate Medical professor of Psychiatry, Stephen V. Faraone, PhD. explains the history of why this has gone largely untreated and urges primary care practitioners to learn to recognize and treat the afflication. Visit the link above to learn more. Our Website with Free Resources

Convincing teens or young adults about the importance of sticking with a treatment plan for their ADHD proves challenging for many parents. What is the best way for a parent to support transition-age youth through a period when they reject their diagnosis or treatment completely? What if something in the treatment plan is not working? What can a parent do if they notice symptoms are becoming a problem, but the teen or young adult either is not seeing it—or does not want to discuss the matter? ADHD coach Kate Barrett shares treatment compliance strategies and tips to help parents support teens or young adults through a successful transition toward adulthood.

Kate Barrett, ACG, ACC
Kate Barrett, ACG, ACC, is a writer and ADHD and EF coach and founder of Coaching Cville, providing services internationally from Charlottesville, Virginia. Her background includes extensive volunteer and advocacy roles in the public school system and ADHD expert roles in parent, couple, and student education seminars. She provides individual and group programs locally and internationally and speaks regularly to professionals, community, and industry on executive function and ADHD. Barrett’s focus is to overlay executive function theory with ADHD coaching in order to facilitate systemic scaffolding and support for those diagnosed with ADHD. In addition, she finds teaching and coaching non-ADHD caregivers and partners on the intricacies of ADHD further supports all members of the relationship through the development and practice of empathy and appreciation for neurodiversity within the family structure.

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is associated with many adverse outcomes, including comorbid disorders, behavioral issues and social disorders. This video will show you how successful ADHD treatment can transform someone's life. Anthony Rostain MD/MA, the Medical Director for the Penn Medicine Adult ADHD Program describes the success story of a James, a 27-year-old male who had substance abuse problems but now has created his own successful business since getting treatment for his ADHD.

James was diagnosed with ADHD in elementary school. He stopped receiving ADHD treatment in grade school and started using prescription and recreational drugs. This led to him being charged with poly-substance abuse. He was also diagnosed with multiple drug addictions as well as an alcohol addiction. Rostain asked James to see him after he was finished with treatment. He realized that James was still suffering from ADHD, which he suffered as a child.

James, upon being admitted to treatment, complained of depression. He had trouble completing tasks and was unable to stay focused. ADHD treatment consisted of both medication and cognitive behavioral therapy sessions. These sessions allowed James to learn more about ADHD, its effects on him, and how he could cope.
