Although prescription stimulants are often highly effective in reducing ADHD symptoms in children, adolescents, and adults, problems of non-medical misuse and abuse of prescription stimulants among adolescents, college students, and adults have become evident in recent years. Some students who need to get a lot of work done want the perceived benefits of stimulant medications. Friends, acquaintances, or even strangers will often ask other students who have a prescription to sell them their medication. In other cases, other students may steal medication from a student with ADHD. During this live webinar, you will learn what professionals, parents, and college students can do to prevent misuse, abuse, and diversion.

Dr. Kevin Antshel is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. He is also the Director of Clinical Training in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University. His research focuses on developmental psychopathology with specific emphasis on attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan.

This personality type does not necessarily cause anxiety. OCD sufferers are more likely to be in distress and seek treatment. OCPD sufferers typically seek treatment when someone else requires it.

ADHD isn't just one story – it's the stories of thousands of people around the world. It's the stories of children, of college students, of adult adhd. It's more than their symptoms: it's the story of their struggles and their successes.

Research shows that ADHD brains behave differently to neurotypical brains. However, imaging technology such as CT scans or PET scans or MRIs cannot be used to diagnose ADHD. This is partly because they aren't sensitive enough to distinguish between possible causes and work on a case by case basis.

Although there are many tests that can be done to diagnose ADHD, it is not necessary. You can diagnose it through interview, observation, and so on. It is often just a matter of the observations of a trained medical professional such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, pediatrician, or other mental health professionals.

The symptoms must be present for at least six months, in at least two settings (at school or at home) and have to have a negative impact on work, school, or personal functioning. Patients below 17 need to have at least 6 symptoms. 17 or higher must show at most 5. However, even medical professionals can't guarantee a correct diagnosis.
