From a very young age, Emily Hamblin’s son would have meltdowns and get intensely angry. He was also really bright. He was ahead of the curve academically and scored in the 99th percentile on standardized testing. His teachers would say he was just “smart and quirky.” That didn’t sit right with Emily, though. She knew something else was going on.

Then one day, a friend suggested that Emily look into ADHD. She was skeptical at first. But when she learned more, it was clear that this was the missing puzzle piece. Her son was twice-exceptional: He’s gifted AND he has ADHD. And this discovery even helped her recognize ADHD symptoms in herself.

Emily co-hosts a podcast called “Enlightening Motherhood,” which aims to help moms who are overwhelmed by their kids’ big emotions. Listen in to hear how Emily reframes ADHD symptoms in a positive light.

What to Do When you're Feeling Anxious (Ft. Grounding Techniques) #adhd #shorts

https://medbusiness.net/what-to-do-when-youre-feeling-anxious-ft-grounding-techniques-adhd-shorts/

The past few years have been tumultuous, worrying, and depressing. Events, both global, career-wise, and personal, have challenged my normally upbeat mood. While I've felt depressed at points, I know it's different from a diagnosis of Clinical Depression.

Been there. Done that. More than once. Not fun.

If the past few years have been a struggle for you too, you may be wondering what are the symptoms that it's full-blown Depression? To keep things positive, here are 10 signs it's NOT Depression. (Vote For Pedro)

Am I depressed?
Several patrons have asked about the difference between natural sadness and full-blown depression, so what is the difference?

Depression is classified as a mood disorder as in clinically depressed, meaning you’re seeing a doctor at a clinic and you’ve received a reliable diagnosis of depression. It’s to the point where you are suffering, but here’s the thing you may not realize that you are suffering.

Depression can come on so slowly so gradually you don’t even notice what’s happening. Now to be clear I am not a doctor although I did play a nurse in a Frantics comedy skit, my bedside manner was yeah so so.

So at points in my life I have been down, sad, feeling kind of depressed, for any number of reasons, good reasons. Usually.

I’ve also been clinically depressed a few times so I have some first-hand experience or first head experience.

Now to make sure that I’m not talking through my hat I avoid wearing hats and I consulted a list of depression symptoms from sources that I trust.

Symptoms of Depression
Symptoms of depression can include:

Trouble concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
Fatigue
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness
Pessimism and hopelessness
Insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or sleeping too much
Crankiness
Restlessness
Loss of interest in things once pleasurable, including sex
Overeating, or appetite loss
Aches, pains, headaches, or cramps that won’t go away
Digestive problems that don’t get better, even with treatment
Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” feelings
Suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts
*Source WebMD

The lists of depression symptoms are fairly consistent that’s what I found, they don’t vary much from site to site. That said I found these lists flat, even kind of abstract, when you’re depressed you’re not thinking or feeling things in a clear balanced way so you could read any one of these symptoms and go “um yeah, I don’t know, um sort of, I hadn’t noticed” they can seem ungrounded, so let’s ground the symptoms in a real life experience one that we can all share as human beings, The Queen’s Gambit.

Now in 2020 this amazing Netflix series about an orphan who becomes a chess prodigy garnered 60 million views in one month, that’s like half the population of the world… okay it’s one percent less than… it’s still it’s impressive.

If you haven’t seen it I’ll avoid spoilers but the sequence on the planet mars was amazing and who knew Khloe Kardashian could act, huh. If you missed it feel free to substitute a new program you love because you might be watching this later, so maybe it’ll be Sharknado 5 the dust devil’s revenge or Napoleon Dynamite 2, I want a sequel, sorry.

Also since depression only ever affects a percentage of the population and even for most of us who have experienced it the depression tends to come in bouts. Most of my life I’ve been happy and hopeful I’ll be you know a little anxious and scattered and worried all the time but it’s not there forever.

So here are 10 signs that you’re not depressed because most of us aren’t depressed most of the time.

When people think they have the “cure” for my ADHD

This video is based on Schema Therapy. Schema is a framework for how you see yourself. This framework is built by your early life experiences, but it also adjusts over time as you have new experiences. There are 18 schemas or core beliefs that have been identified, but this video covers 3 that have been identified to be common in adults who have ADHD, even if you were never diagnosed as a child.

Schema 1- Feeling defective
You feel inadequate at all levels. This can make you hypersensitive to criticism and rejection. You can also feel insecure around people and always be in a state of comparing yourself to others.

Schema 2 - A basic sense of failure.
Essentially you feel you haven’t met your potential. With this schema people often feel inept, stupid, lacking talent or just doomed to be less successful than everyone else. This can cause you to give up easily on things or not even try something because after all, you’re not going to be good at it.

Schema 3 - Insufficient self-control
You can’t rely on yourself to accomplish the things you need to. You can’t tolerate the frustration that comes with waiting for a desired outcome. Also through this schema you avoid certain responsibilities or duties that are uncomfortable even if it means missing out on something that could advance you.

Over the years you can develop a cycle of negative experiences that lead to a negative appraisal of yourself. This leads to maladaptive coping strategies like procrastinating, or avoiding things altogether. This creates negative emotions like depression, anxiety, guilt, anger and frustration.

Then these coping strategies and negative emotions confirm your core beliefs that you’re defective, you're a failure and you have insufficient self-control.

What can you do about it?
One goal is to change your core beliefs about yourself because those beliefs perpetuate the dysfunctional behavior like avoidance and procrastination which creates more problems for you. This is best done with the help of a therapist who is trained in Schema Therapy.

A second goal is to change your coping strategies in a way that modifies your schema or core beliefs. The new feedback that you get from others and yourself becomes more positive. Your schema is formed from your experiences and how you respond to input you get externally. Therefore, consistent positive feedback helps to change your schema.

Stay tuned for more information on how to change some of the dysfunctional behavior’s that perpetuate the negative core beliefs.

[Verse 1]
Call me, but I don't really know how to say
It doesn't really matter because I threw it away
You know I'm the worst because you cause me all this pain
If all hearts do is break, what's the point?

[Pre-Chorus]
I won't go to bed tonight
No, I'm not going to breathe tonight
It's not okay

[Chorus]
Excuse me, while falls apart Yes, I do deserve this broken heart
All along
, my friends were right about you. We know you won't, however, we hope you will call
"Cause since you cut me off
All I have is

[Verse 2]
Tiny liquor bottles in one row
I have seven left and seven more to go
You are out there in all places we used to go
You are becoming someone I once knew
.
[Pre-Chorus]
No, I'm no going to sleep tonight
No, I'm not going to breathe tonight
It's not okay

If you want to know how to test for ADHD for yourself or your child, you MUST watch this video.

We'll cover how to get an ADHD self assessment or an assessment for your child, what ADHD screening tools people use, and who can diagnose ADHD.

We also cover what ADHD means, what ADHD stands for, and what ADHD looks like as well as common ADHD symptoms.

It's very important to understand ADHD who makes the diagnosis and why you should not take ADHD self tests.

For those of you who don’t know, ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, which is actually a misleading name because:
- you don’t have to be hyperactive to have it
- and people with ADHD don’t have an attention deficit, it’s just that regulating their attention is difficult, which can either make it hard for them to focus on one thing or can make them hyperfocused on one thing

What does ADHD mean?
ADHD is a medical condition, more specifically a neurodevelopmental disorder.

It is NOT a myth or made-up excuse by parents of “naughty” kids. If you’ve ever had to deal with this, let me know what happened in the comments below!

A person with ADHD has visible differences in brain development and brain activity that affect their attention, emotional regulation, and self-control.

Watch the full video to understand more about what ADHD is, how to take an ADHD test, and how to get your child tested for ADHD.
