Strategies to Help with ADHD Treatment Compliance

Many parents find it difficult to convince their children or teens about the importance and necessity of adhering to a treatment plan for ADHD. How can parents support their child during a time when they are rejecting their diagnosis or treatment? What happens if the treatment plan doesn’t work? What should a parent do when they see symptoms that are becoming a problem but the teenager or young adult isn’t seeing them? Kate Barrett, ADHD coach, shares tips and strategies to help parents support young adults or teens through the transition into adulthood.

Kate Barrett, ACG. ACC is a writer, ADHD and EF coach, and the founder of Coaching Cville. She provides international services from Charlottesville, Virginia. Her experience includes many volunteer and advocacy roles in public schools and ADHD expert roles in parent and couple education seminars. She offers individual and group programs both locally and internationally. She also speaks frequently to professionals, the community, and industry about ADHD and executive function. Barrett’s goal is to combine executive function theory and ADHD coaching to provide systemic support for ADHD patients. She also believes that coaching non-ADHD caregivers or partners on the intricacies ADHD can help all members of the relationship by fostering empathy and appreciation for the diversity of the family.

Not all doctors can give you a diagnosis and prescribe medication. It is preferable to have a doctor who is experienced in Adult ADHD. This is another episode.
Only a handful of Black Women are talking about it. We need to have a conversation about it so that we can all support one another and remind ourselves that there's nothing wrong with us.
