Living a Successful HD Life with ADHD | Vivian Tan | TEDxYouth@RHHS

I always noticed that I was different; I was academically successful, but I still had trouble focusing and interacting with others, and it took a toll on me. After getting diagnosed, I realized that I had ADHD. I was not sure if it made my life easier, as my family wasn’t aware of my condition. It was something I was ashamed of because I knew people would not sympathize and react negatively to it. They had different opinions. But I learned that I shouldn’t be ashamed. It’s okay for me to be different, and I want that to be shared with neurotypical and neurodiverse people to change their views on mental health. Vivian Tan, a public speaker and entrepreneur, is passionate about helping students with public speaking and personal and professional development. From being the President and Founder of YOUth of BC, to being a 3x Tedx speaker, she is actively involved in the community. Since 2020,, she has been invited to speak at over 25 events. This was purely because of her personal brand and skills. She spoke at organizations like Rewriting the Code and Intrepid Museum. In her spare time, she enjoys drinking bubble tea, reading, and cooking. She hopes to become a social entrepreneur and a businesswoman in the future and inspire others to succeed. This talk was delivered at a TEDx event that used the TED conference format, but was organized locally by a community. Find out more at x

Panic attacks can be scary, especially in the moment that you realize that you're having one and that it's going to get worse before it gets better. A panic attack can be overcome. These next few minutes are all you need to enjoy.

This video will show you how. Distraction is a classic coping strategy for a reason. Focusing on the objects around you and breathing exercises can help reduce fear while you wait for the attack's end. These techniques can be learned in this video. If you are having panic attacks right now, you can also use the distraction of the video.

However, it is not meant to replace proper mental health care. It's possible to experience a panic attack without any particular reason. However, panic attacks often occur as part of an anxiety disorder. If you feel the panic attacks are getting worse, consult a therapist, or your doctor.
