A fourth-year student at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, LaRae Katie Smith is currently working towards completing her Bachelor of Arts with streams in English, history and linguistics, as well as her Bachelor of Education. Smith explains that there are many factors beyond our control that we all have to face. People who lived during the Great Depression did not sign up to deal with dust storms. She also didn’t sign-up for ADHD. These factors are decided by a “roll of a dice.” LaRae Katie, a fourth-year student at University of Lethbridge is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in English, history, and linguistics. For a good part of my life I thought I was dumb. That was actually the worst part of my life. While my siblings were able to earn honors, I struggled at school. Is that what they call it? I can't recall. Naturally, I assumed that the problem was me. As do many researchers and educators, I now realize that brainpower is not the problem for many students and adults. It's how your brain learns best.
When I buy something that has a lot of instructions written on it, I get overwhelmed. Instead, I prefer to read a few words with lots of illustrations. (Thank you, Ikea! )
