A child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has a unique brain. In a classroom, a child with ADHD may have trouble focusing, be disorganized or receive poor grades; but outside the classroom, the same child is imaginative, spontaneous and full of positive energy. “Think about it as a child who has a racing car for a brain with the brakes of a bicycle,” explained Nawras Shukair, MD. “So there’s a mismatch between what their brain is able to do and their ability to regulate it.” In this episode of Health Watch, Dr. Shukair shares the strength-based approach to viewing and managing ADHD symptoms.
