Book Reviews:
Dr Sharon Saline has written an extraordinary book about helping kids and teens with ADHD. First she helps readers understand the biology of ADHD and the brain. Then she explains her system of five C’s: self-Control, Compassion, Collaboration, Consistency and Celebration in detail and guides readers on how to apply the five C’s to specific areas such as parenting, life at home, school, self-regulation (both for parents and their children and teens), emotional control, personal responsibility, self-awareness and acceptance, and so much more. A unique and powerful component of this book is the voices of the children and teens that are heard throughout the book which give readers an authentic look inside the minds and experiences of children and teens who have ADHD. As a parent of an adult child with ADHD and a psychotherapist and neurotherapist who has helped thousands of clients thrive with ADHD I highly recommend this book to parents as well as anyone who counsels, teaches or otherwise helps a child or teen with ADHD. Debra Burdick, LCSW, BCN Author of Mindfulness Skills for Kids and Teens, Mindfulness for Teens with ADHD, Mindfulness for Kids with ADHD, and Mindfulness Skill Card Deck for Kids

As a professional specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, I am heartened to read a book about ADHD that is practical, substantive, and engaging. Most people with ADHD can’t sustain interest in books about ADHD. This one is different. Dr. Saline does an amazing job of weaving important scientifically based research and knowledge about ADHD with compassionate and effective strategies for helping kids and teens with ADHD thrive. From her clinical work, Dr. Saline clearly knows the psychological risk factors of low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety that can too often develop when kids with ADHD are misunderstood and parented from traditional models. I am hopeful that this will be a parenting guide that will make a difference for ADHD kids and their parents. As a parent of kids with ADHD, I know all too well, when our children are doing well, we breathe and sleep easier, and ANY help along the way is appreciated. While there are no easy answers, Dr. Saline offers practical help parents and kids need and hope that there is light at the end of the tumultuous tunnel. I highly recommend her book!!

Here’s everything you need to know about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. Thomas E. Brown, PhD, discusses ADHD diagnosis, ADHD symptoms, available ADHD treatment options, and ADHD medication.

As our expert says, ADD/ADHD is not a behavior problem. It has far more to do with the brain’s management system. Remember, ADHD has nothing to do with how smart a person is.
