My hands are shaking and it’s not because of my dance moves.

Eight years ago, I was likely in a similar position to you now.

So… I took a trip to a Spanish speaking country and it was all a near fairy tale from then on right?
Well…not quite.
So it’s 2006 and I head to Costa Rica hoping it would be a new chapter in my dating life…
… and I was struggling…the only girls that I could communicate with were backpacker girls or foreign exchange students from the UK, Canada, and the USA who drank at the Irish-themed bars as I did.
Every time I tried to approach a local beauty she would struggle to understand my sloppy Spanish, then make a face and walk away.
You know what that’s like?…being ignored by the hottest chicas in the bar just because you can’t speak a word of Spanish!
The only local girls who showed any interest were the bottom-of-the-barrel chicks, who turned out to be “prepagos” (pros). It’s not my thing.

I soon realised I wouldn’t get anywhere with the top latina talent by just being a tourist in town for a week trying to build rapport with my broken Spanish.
But these painful experiences did have a positive long-term effect on me.

I even paid $400 for a two week ‘Intensive Spanish’ course in Panama, and it was fun I’m not going to lie. I made new friends with whom I am still in touch today. But on the last day of the course I said to myself “that was fun but was it $400 worth of fun“?
After all of this research, I decided that I was ready for Spanish-speaking girls to have another chance and so I moved to Mexico with my Spanish grammar knowledge.
And…
…Well, I’d gotten better. I was able to talk about the weather. I received compliments about my pronunciation and accent.
But, I was not leading the conversations in a romantic or sexual way.
I still didn’t do well with Latin women. It wasn’t enough. I knew that Rosseta stone or Pilmsleur Spanish would not teach me the kind of conversation I wanted with beautiful women ..
