Why do antidepressants kill your sex drive? Side effects of antidepressants that can cause sexual side effects are common. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter and nerve chemical, plays a part in regulating your mood. It can also affect nerves controlling other parts of the body. You actually have more serotonin receptors than your brain in your gut, for example. This is why nausea is such a common side effect of these medications.
High levels of serotonin in your brain can cause problems with your sexual behavior. You can experience sexual dysfunction such as a lack of interest or climax, inability to have an even orgasm, decreased sensation in the genital area, and delayed climax.
Some studies have shown this to happen as frequent as 60-70%. This is a large number of people who are affected. This video explains the problem and offers solutions.
