Getting adequate protein on a daily basis is critical for good health. What we call “protein” is actually a broad range of compounds. They offer the shape and support of your cells and are required for immunological function, mobility, chemical processes, hormone production, and other functions.

They are all composed of microscopic building pieces known as amino acids. Nine of these are deemed essential, which means your body need them but cannot produce them on its own, so you must obtain them via your food.
