How Marijuana Is Good And Bad For You

Marijuana is the common term for cannabis that is derived from the plant Cannabis sativa. It contains hundreds of cannabinoids, which are chemicals that have many chemical components. The two main cannabinoids in the cannabis plant that we’ve studies are D9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC and cannabidiol or CBD. CBD has mind-altering properties, while THC does not.

Cannabinoids, also known as neurotransmitters, are chemicals that alter the activity of nerves. This is why cannabis can have an effect on the body. The endocannabinoid (or endocannabinoid) system is how we make our own cannabinoids. Anandamide and 2-arachidonoyl-glycerol are the two endocannabinoids.
