ADHD : How schools could do better | Josh Cook | TEDxAstonUniversity

I have supported children with special educational needs and disabilities in both primary and secondary environments. After seeing firsthand the difficulties that ADHD children face in school, I believed that we could do more.

Some of the practices that are being used in schools today may actually be hindering our efforts to support these kids. We must stop relying on punishment and praise. We can help ADHD youth develop the resilience and skills necessary to face everyday challenges by encouraging curiosity and flexibility. In primary and secondary schools, I have worked with children with special educational needs or disabilities. I saw firsthand the difficulties ADHD children face in school and felt that there was more we could do. Some of the practices that are being used in schools today actually hinder our efforts to support these kids. We must stop relying on punishment and praise. We can help ADHD youth develop the resilience and skills necessary to face everyday challenges by encouraging curiosity and flexibility.
