Today’s video answers the question: what triggers the mood swings that you can see and borderline personality disorder?
Borderline personality disorder can be compared to bipolar disorder by having mood swings that are large. In this video, I compare borderline personality disorder with bipolar disorder.
The gist is that borderline personality disorder can cause mood swings that last for hours, if not days. Bipolar disorder sufferers experience mood swings that last at most for four days (hypomania) and up to two weeks (depression).
Borderline personality disorder is characterized by personality changes that are caused by something. It may not be obvious at the time what trigger it.
These are some things that can help you feel better:
Relationship problems
Feeling empty
Dissociative symptomsMemories of trauma
Therapy can help you to make these connections and not be overwhelmed by emotions that seem out of nowhere. Understanding that intense emotions are from somewhere can help you accept them, process them, and let them go without overwhelming you. This is what dialectical behavior therapy teaches you. It teaches you how to manage distress and regulate emotions.
Dialectical behavior therapy teaches many strategies. This video is about managing negative emotions. Thank you for watching. We look forward to seeing you again.
