Since 1980., The Drake Institute has been an international leader in non-drug treatment for children and adults. David F. Velkoff M.D. is our Medical Director and cofounder. He oversees all treatment programs and evaluations. Dr. Velkoff received his Masters in Psychology degree from California State University Los Angeles in 1975,, and his Doctor of Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine Atlanta in 1976.. Dr. Velkoff did his postgraduate work in Obstetrics & Gynology at the University of California Medical Center, Irvine. After he switched to Behavioral Medicine, he trained at the Menninger Clinic in Topeka Kansas to learn biofeedback. He co-founded the Drake Institute of Behavioral Medicine in 1980,.
Seeking to better understand the link between illness and the mind, Dr. Velkoff served as the clinical director of an international research study on psychoneuroimmunology with the UCLA Medical School Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
Dr. Velkoff was the founding editor of Journal of Neurotherapy, a scientific publication.

We wanted to update you on our situation. After meeting with Dr. Velkoff, he was sincere in helping his patients get the help they needed. He provides additional assessment and treatment at no extra cost. Our PC failed to coordinate our concerns with Dr. V in a timely manner. We appreciate Dr. V's genuine efforts. He even provided his cell phone number so that we could reach him immediately if we didn't get a response from our PC. We are pleased that our child is receiving the right care. His clinic must be very busy.

This facility has made a huge difference in the lives of a friend who had her son treated there. He was a showman, would get into trouble when she wasn’t looking and throw tantrums. He was absolutely not interested in any drug treatment. He began to improve after just a few weeks. Not all at once but you could see him think more clearly and communicating better. It is almost like a day and night difference to see how he behaves now as opposed to before neurofeedback treatments. Neurofeedback is something I am learning more about. I don't want to see ADHD and ADD kids on drugs. What amazing results have I seen at this facility!
