Major depressive disorder, also known as medically diagnosed depression, can be more severe.
How do we know if the feeling of being at the end of the world is depression and not just a prolonged period with bad days?
These are some symptoms:
1. Hopeless outlook on life
Depression is characterized by a negative outlook on life and a feeling of hopelessness.
People who are depressed may be troubled by thoughts and feelings such as self-hate, worthlessness, and inappropriate guilt.
They will often say things such as “It’s all mine fault” or “What’s your point ?”

Anhedonia refers to a loss of interest in or pleasure in something you love.

Going out with friends.

3. You will feel more tired and have sleep problems that make your life miserable
A feeling of overwhelming fatigue can be a sign that you are experiencing fatigue. You may feel exhausted and have a negative impact on your social or professional life.
It is possible to have trouble falling asleep. The next day you will have less energy.
These steps can be repeated again and quickly spiral out of control.
4. Anxiety that cripples
Anxiety and depression often co-occur.
Anxiety symptoms can include:
Feeling anxious, restless, or tension.
Feeling of imminent danger, panic, or doom.
A higher heart rate.
Hyperventilation or rapid breathing.
Sweating.
Trembling.
Feeling tired or weak.

Some people openly talk about their desire to kill themselves or commit suicide.
Oder they dwell on the subject of death and dying.
They might look for ways to kill themselves, or purchase a gun, knife or pill.
You can reach a suicide prevention or crisis hotline if you suspect someone is contemplating suicide.
If you’ve been experiencing any of these symptoms for longer than two weeks you may be suffering from major depressive disorder or clinical depression. Seek medical help immediately.

First, ask the person with depression if he or she needs help. If the person does not, try to understand the problem and let them know it is a medical condition. Encourage them to eat a healthy diet, limit alcohol, exercise, and see a doctor. If they do not feel better within two to four weeks, encourage them to take medication. While antidepressants take time to work, the person can often see results within two to four weeks.
