If you are wondering how to help someone with depression, there are several steps you can take to make sure your efforts are successful. First, identify the signs and symptoms of depression. Next, you can discuss your concerns with someone trusted. Remember that you should never discuss the depression with your loved one. You should try to focus on their feelings, not on the depression itself. Choose a trustworthy friend or family member who will listen to your concerns without interrupting or judging them.

What Are The Signs Of Depression

Symptoms of depression are often vague and vary from person to person. The most common are feelings of sadness or hopelessness and loss of interest in activities and pleasure that used to be enjoyable. These symptoms may persist for weeks or months, and may affect work, social life, and relationships. People often experience depression slowly, and may not even realize that they are depressed. If these symptoms occur over time, they should see a doctor.

If a depressed person is exhibiting symptoms for more than two weeks, they should be evaluated by a medical professional. However, doctors are guided by guidelines in manuals and cannot diagnose depression without knowing a patient’s history. In the UK, doctors use the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 to make decisions about a person’s symptoms. Symptoms of depression may include thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

He or she may also order blood tests to rule out any other underlying health problems. Many mental health professionals will ask you to complete questionnaires to determine the severity of your depression. A common questionnaire is the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, which asks 21 questions to assess the severity of your depression. Another popular questionnaire is the Beck Depression Inventory.

How To Support Somone With Depression

It is important to learn about depression and how to help someone who is suffering from it. If possible, offer your support or seek help from someone else. Attempting to cure a person of depression yourself will not be helpful. If a person is in denial about their depression, they will probably be unable to receive support from others. Encouraging the person to get help with their depression
