UVA Evaluates ADHD Medicines to Reduce Highway Crashes
Researchers Examine Whether Extended-Release Drugs Improve Driving Safety
University of Virginia School of Medicine researchers are investigating whether an extended-release medication to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can increase highway safety and prevent accidents, especially at times when the risk of drivers colliding with other vehicles is highest.
Dr. Daniel Cox is a world-renowned expert on driving safety for ADHD patients. He will be using UVA's high-tech driving simulation to assess the driving abilities of people taking the extended-release medication and those who are on a shorter-term ADHD medication.
